$41k/month with a browser extension - IH Podcast

https://www.indiehackers.com/podcast/187-jordan-oconnor-of-closet-tools

Wanted to highlight this podcast in this group because one of the top solo founder products by revenue on IH is actually a browser extension by @jdnoc!

Somehow I've gathered that people are hesitant to pay for browser extensions, but Closet Tools (the extension/Saas) goes to show that if it's valuable, people will pay.

Amazing job by @jdnoc of finding a market with a need and building a tool to solve their problem. So many people are copying him now so it will be interesting to watch. My biggest concern for a tool like this would be for poshmark to take action against the tool or users using it.

Great to see you don’t need millions of users. Currently my extensions have over 350,000 active users. I’ve been trying to think of how I could get 10% of my users to pay monthly for additional features. I tend to go with the approach that more users is better but not in all cases. Especially if you can make an extension that helps other people make money.

More users is definitely not better for a solo-indiehacker. It just means more support requests, and then less time building.

If your product is free, sure. But you want to focus on traffic/users that are quality, not quantity.

In my case a weather extension and a URL Shortener are free with paid upgrades. Most people think of checking the weather and it’s free so charging monthly is a hard sell. T.LY is monthly charge but a challenge to find users with the competition. I also allow people to shorten links for free without accounts.

Yeah those are just tough niches to make money. Weather channels don't make money talking about the weather, they make money running ads to viewers.

If you want to directly sell to users, it's much easier to do so when the thing you make helps them make more money (or there's at least some other form of transaction involved).

    Great point to highlight it.

You could also add it to the resources section or pin it to the top of the group. 👍🏼

Its a cool idea, but I'll reserve the resources for members. =)
