[AsK IH] Which payment service?

[AsK IH] Which payment service?

Hello everyone,

We are building our first SaaS MVP with a couple of friends. We need a payment method which provides a monthly/yearly subscription service. Our company and it's bank account is located in Estonia, so unfortunatelly we can't use Stripe.

We are currently evaulating Braintree. Any recommendations?

Braintrees subscription API is terrible. If it were me I would look at Chargebee, Chargly, or Recurly. Good luck!

What specifically about their subscription API is so terrible? Just asking out of curiosity.

Personally I don't like them because they rejected me, after I hooked up a lot of their API, due to them saying my simple SaaS design related product was "high risk". When I asked them for details and if I could do anything about it they said "Sorry, decision has been made and there is nothing you can do"

Yeah they have a length approval process mostly because they actually do the processing. Paypal bought Braintree because Braintree implemented Paypal better than PayPal did.

To answer your question, Braintree's API's pain points:

        • a subscription that's trialing has a status of active. Determining if its trialing requires doing date comparisons
        • API does not support percentage based coupons. They only support whole dollar amounts, like $5.00. Also, API does not support CRUD ops (you can't create, update or delete coupons)
        • API does not support upgrades with different billing intervals.
        • API does not support reactivations
        • API does not support creating, updating, or deleting plans
        • Adding add-ons requires updating, or deleting add-ons, and requires determining if add-ons are present. This makes things like applying a credit complex as compared to Stripe (applying a negative line item for an invoice with one call)

@nphaskins thank you for the very detailed cons. I eliminated Braintree as well. Will look into your recommendations. Thanks!

Thanks for the detailed response. It sounds like I dodged a bullet in this case. It wouldn't have worked for me with those limitations.

I was mostly surprised by their decline because they didn't really start any process. They just said no right away without asking any questions or anything.

I do not have direct experience but https://paddle.com is located in EU and supports many currencies.

How about FastSpring? We have been using it for about 5 years at SlideModel.com and worked very well for us. We recommend them.

Hi, I can’t recommand Chargebee enought.

Product is incredible, free for the first 50k of revenue.

Only thing that could be better is the doc, but their support is awsome

also they support VAT for EU, which stripe is lacking for their subscription API

Will check Chargebee out, thank you!
