4 hours of gaming just fly by. You feel great while doing it, but you haven't actually achieved anything and afterwards you feel bad because you could have done something more productive.
4 hours of cleaning up your apartment feels like an eternity. But afterwards you are enthusiastic about the result and happy about how clean it is everywhere. Sometimes you can even do it in less time. Now you can finally focus on the important things.
4 hours of TV/Netflix/PrimeVideo/WhatEver let you relax after a busy day at work. You sit or lie comfortably and can eat chips at the same time. However, you don't manage to switch off on time because you really want to know how it goes on. What if you hadn't started this series in the first place? You wouldn't be interested in how it goes on. How much time could you have spent differently? How much more awake would you have been during the day?
4 hours work on your dream. Maybe you want to open this one shop or create this website or app? However, you are not at all sure whether it will do anything at all and maybe you should refrain from doing it? However, you will never know if you don't try.
4 hours of Twitter/Instagram/TikTok lets you peek into other people's lives. People who have obviously achieved something, who are successful. You follow their story, hear and read their opinions and sentences every day. When you turn off the smartphone, you feel empty because they are gone. What great thing would happen if you let go of them and finally started living your life instead of chasing after them.
I like this article.
This is brilliant. Its the reason I cant enjoy gaming like I used to. The guilt I feel is real. That being said its important to take time for yourself to recover, whatever that means to you. If you're going to take a break, make it a high quality break. 20 min browsing twitter is not a quality break.
I would have to pick either "4 hours work on your dream" or "4 hours of cleaning up your apartment" because in that case you are either working towards something you want or (at least for me) I have worked towards a cleaner environment which in turn will make me more production when I do work.
The key here though is not that I don't love doing all of the other things, I absolutely do my fair share (probably too much) of the other options but if I had to pick one... or two, sorry π
Yes, these are the two things you should focus on.
But it often happens that you decide differently because of laziness or procrastination.
Tell me about it! Once you find a good Netflix documentary that is it, all productivity is lost... π
