40 IH posts in 2 weeks and what i learned about content as a distribution channel

two weeks ago i had zero posts on indie hackers. now i have 40.

here is what that experiment taught me about using content as your primary growth channel.

what worked

honest numbers get engagement. every time i shared real metrics ($0 revenue, 367 emails sent, gmail got restricted) people read it. nobody cares about polished success stories from strangers. they care about relatable struggles.

specific beats generic. "how to scrape 798 agency emails in a weekend" outperforms "tips for lead generation" every time. the more specific your title, the more people click.

consistency compounds. post 1 got nothing. post 5 got nothing. but by post 15, i started getting profile views. by post 30, people recognized the username. by post 40, im part of the community.

what didnt work

posting product links without context. nobody clicks "buy my CSV for $19." but they will click "heres the exact process i used to build a 798-agency contact list."

posting the same story in different words. readers notice. the 3rd variation of "i sent cold emails and got no replies" feels repetitive.

the math

40 posts x ~100 views each = ~4000 impressions
4000 impressions x 3% click-through = ~120 landing page visits
120 visits x 1% conversion = 1.2 expected sales

im right at the statistical edge. one more week of posting should push past the first sale.

what im doing differently now

  1. free sample: 50 agency contacts for $0 to prove data quality (https://vemtrac.gumroad.com/l/blole)
  2. engagement: commenting on other posts, not just publishing
  3. variety: mixing how-to guides with honest metrics posts
