I created a "Quick question about PRODUCT NAME"

I actually faced the same problem with one of my products. Here's how I fixed it:

Your low open/response rate is probably stemming from the fact that this looks like a welcome email. You could fix it by sending it 1 or 2 days after the user signs up, and don't put "Read2Me" in the title. Just something like "Quick question" should work. (It will peak the reader's curiosity.)

Second, most people don't want to take the time to type out a longform response, so you could fix it by using a Typeform.com survey instead:

Hey Nicole! I saw that you had signed up for Read2Me and wanted to thank you. If you have 30 seconds, could you answer these two questions for me?

How did you hear about Read2Me?

• Facebook

How do you plan to use Read2Me?

Seconding what @Zeph said about your current message possibly being mistaken as a welcome email (due to mention of Read2Me in the subject line).

With "Quick question" as the subject, I'd move to A/B testing the trigger timing. (30 mins. after signup may be too soon).

Maybe tease a little bit? Something like "Thanks for signing up! Can I ask you something?"

Another idea might be to incorporate it in another type of mail. "Welcome! Here are our top 5 most listened to articles", and ask your question in the same mail?

I would change something in the body of the email.
What does your "From:" line looks like? The best choice would be "Nino, Read2Me creator"

Subj: "Thanks for signing up for Read2Me! A couple of quick questions…"
