What tool(s) do you use for recording "demo" or "howto" videos?
I am looking for something which will get the job done without any watermarking or "Powered by" stuff.
OBS and Shotcut, both totally free and open source!
I personally like Loom, they have some pretty nice features:

I second Loom!
+1
OBS is great for screenrecording. Free / Open source:

Try out Vmaker screen recorder to record both demo and how to videos
Joyoshare Screen Recorder could be a good fit if you need to make how-to videos. It successfully earns my trust cause it is powerful and reliable. It can record videos in HD quality with zero lag, which is important.
The awesomely named screencast-o-matic. I've used them all and this is the most cost effective and easy to use I've come across.
Highly recommended

If you are doing a terminal recording, you can use terminalizer https://github.com/faressoft/terminalizer or asciinema https://asciinema.org/
MacOS Mojave has a decent screen recorder built in (I think the shortcut is Apple + Shift + 5).
For gifs I sometimes use Giphy capture, and if I need to show key strokes then I use KeyCastr which is free and open source.
Hi @usamaejaz,
This is a great question. I used so many tools in my startup life. Then I discovered Loom and I am totally dependent. As @alchemist @sknight @oodavid mentioned it is absolutely perfect.
It is a Chrome Extension.
It allows you to record only the screen, yourself in a corner of the screen while you walk the user through your app.
the moment when you stop the screen recording it automatically generates a URL that you can paste wherever you need.
And, it tells you when someone clicks and opens your link, which is also helpful.
And all of these just with the free version of it :)
I use Quicktime's "Screen Recording" function, else, Loom is great for screen recording too!
If you want to automate demo/howto videos so you don’t have to record your own screen, try out Studio1.
https://studio1.io/
Instead of recording your own screen, you build a manuscript, which Studio1 uses to produce full screencast videos for you, including synthetic voices (optional) and splash screens. This way you can easily keep your videos up-to-date and produce many videos with a consistent and smooth look.
Disclaimer: I’m the founder of Studio1. Happy to help with any questions :)
I have used (and like) SoapBox by Wistia. Loom is good too.

Obs for screen and audio recording, videopad for editing.
I use Screenflow.
After I use obs or some other screen recorder, I've gotten to like kdenlive (OSS) to do some basic editing (add logo screen, fade in/out, clip parts of videos, add some text). Looks like there's a beta for windows, and an outdated version for osx.
It was pretty confusing trying to figure it out on my own, but youtube vids make a lot of things easy.
Screen recordings screenflow.
For explainer videos I like cartoon videos with voice over from fivver
Cartoon videos? animated explainer videos? Can you suggest a good fiverr seller for that?
I have wasted money on a poor-quality video (just a few days ago).
and one more tip :)
Checkout this site for inspiration https://swipefile.com/explainer-video/
One of the explainer videos I like alot was hipmunk
Also - the video I did for codepilot was not great quality but it seems connected with a problem peple had.
Over 600 people watched the video and provided feedback in a survey.
Here is an example from 2011 :)

I have another one much more recent but did not find it
I write a script
Create the cartoon
Hire someone on fivver for voiceover only
then use screenflow to combine the video and voiceover.
Hope this helps.
A friend of mine suggested Zoom.us, I just installed it and played around with it a little. Looks pretty good.
Hey Usama
You can use Quicktime or Screenflow on Mac.
As far as I know VLC player can also be used and that works on any platform.
If you use Chrome there are also many extensions that can help you.
