48 hours of feedback on my Shopify migration SaaS idea — what I learned

Posted my analysis of 100 Reddit posts 2 days ago. Got some sharp feedback that changed how I think about the opportunity.

Top 3 lessons from the comments:

  1. Forced migration events may be one-off, not recurring. Need to find the adjacent evergreen problem to survive the policy cycle.
  2. "Real payment signal" is a better validation filter than "people saying they would pay" — looks for current spending, not stated intent.
  3. "Solve migration, then own the ongoing hosting" is the SaaS transition play. Migration = acquisition, hosting = retention.

Next step: 5 user interviews before touching a single line of code.

If you've migrated a Shopify store or run an e-commerce store in a regulated industry, I'd love 15 minutes of your time.

What I like is that your thinking evolved from validating an idea to validating a business.

Migration may get someone through the door, but recurring value determines whether you actually have a SaaS. That shift in thinking is probably more important than anything you learned about Shopify itself.

Aryan — that's the framing I needed. "Validating a business, not an idea" is the exact shift I was missing.
Recurring value > one-time spike. Migration is the door, but the question is what keeps them paying after month 1.
I'd love to pick your brain on how you'd pressure-test that transition from "one-time rescue" to "evergreen platform" before I touch a line of code.

        Happy to.

I don't think I'd start by pressure-testing the recurring features.

I'd start with a business assumption sitting underneath that transition. It's subtle, but if it's wrong, it's very easy to build an excellent recurring product around the wrong reason people came in.

It needs a bit more room than a thread allows.
