Does anyone use an alternative web analytics service? If, so what are you using? Obviously most people use Google Analytics, but I'd rather use something not in the Google ecosystem. I'm not sure if it is worth it to look elsewhere.

Clicky, Simple Analytics and Fathom are popular options for web analytics according to Startup Costs.
I've heard good things about https://simpleanalytics.io/ as well
I host my own instance of Matamo: https://matomo.org/ (previously called piwik). I've been doing that for years without missing Google analytics.

No I haven't. I've just used the free open source edition so far. I didn't even known they had session recording actually, so that's good to know! :D
Yes I think it's included in the open source version. I have to try it.
I've been using Fathom from @pjrvs. (self-hosted). Gets the job done.
I've been meaning to try Fathom. If you don't mind me asking, where do you host yours, and how much does it cost to host?
I host mine on my VPS. The VPS costs like $3.50 a month but if you consider that I host other services on it as well, the cost probably approaches zero...
They also offer managed hosting of course.

Maybe a bug. Dotcom domains return a no file kind of fatal error (https://plausible.io/domainname.xyz) while other domains get a proper intended message "Website not found"
Btw how did you achieve this? Did you use .htaccess. I could not do this for a project of mine.

I would recommend Yandex Metrika, which is a rival for Google Analytics.
It's completely free. It has great in-depth analytics for on page behavior (including session recording). It has about the same functionality as Google Analytics on the rest of the things.
Similar to GA, data collected will be used to target ads and search tuning. However, if your users are not from Russia it wouldn't really matter.

I like https://mixpanel.com/ it was easy to set up and works well with SPA's
I use Amplitude for a lot of my analytics with IH
I also recommend Amplitude for behavioural analytics, the free plan is really good.
I've used statcounter.com in the past and they have a free tier, may be going back soon.
