5 Important Lesson Learned via a Customer who is also a Friend Now!

I was talking to a customer (who is now also a friend) today! He told us before Browsee they lost a customer who moved back to a competitor and it was really disheartening for them. That exact day they started using Browsee.

Here are a few learnings on what they could have done differently.

Here is what they learned from their lost customer-

  • Lack of perfection in simple things- They were new to the domain and were trying to make a mark with strong incumbents. Though they had their own strengths yet missing on a few simple details led their customer back to a competitor. The reason was not incompetence but ignorance because they simply did not know what they lacked.
  • Getting basics right - Before you jump from one feature to another, be sure to get the basics right. When someone is already a customer, they look for how good their experience is and not for another awesome new feature which is probably half baked.
  • Pricing discounts help only after parity - Giving discounts to your customers is great but you need to cover the distance first. If your product is having an impact on your customer's business, they would not mind paying 2x-5x costs but they will mind paying x if they miss even one thing.
  • Making a good product with user feedback can feel like a chicken and egg problem. However, for the users' perspective its really the chicken. It's very important to understand what the users really think about your product.
Sometimes as builders we think that we are stuck and we are lacking in marketing or in one more feature to attract more customers. However, the truth is that it is really the chicken or your product that matters. If your product is an outlier, believe me, you will get there! So, focus on your chicken/product. Make it so finger-lickin' good ;)

Always remember that :

New is relative, old is Gospel.
