5 Lessons from an 18-year-old leading growth, 370k ARR startup

Hi everyone, my name is Phill. Here are my 5 tactical lessons I've learned as an 18-year-old running growth at HeySummit (370k ARR):

  • Prioritize user feedback: When you're building a product, it's easy to get caught up in your own ideas and assumptions. But the best way to create something that truly solves a problem is to listen to your users. Regularly solicit feedback and use it to guide your product roadmap.

  • Iterate quickly: In the early days of a startup, speed is crucial. Rather than trying to build the perfect product from the outset, focus on creating something that's good enough to launch and then iterate quickly based on user feedback. Move fast and break things (within reason).

  • Don't underestimate marketing: Even if you have the best product in the world, if no one knows about it, it won't succeed. Invest in marketing early and often, whether that means running ads, creating content, or building a community.

  • Build a strong team: As a young founder, it can be tempting to try to do everything yourself. But the truth is, you can't build a successful company alone. Surround yourself with talented people who share your vision and can help you achieve your goals.

  • Stay organized: With so much going on in a startup, it's easy to get overwhelmed. Make sure you have systems in place to keep yourself organized and on track, whether that means using a project management tool or simply creating a daily to-do list. Stay focused and disciplined, and you'll be well on your way to success.
