5 months to finally have the guts to launch to PH.
I've finally done it. I went ahead and launch my project I've been sharing in this subreddit. It's been almost 5 months since I pushed up my first commit for this project. It's been a journey and one of endurance. 5 months may not seem a lot to you veterans but for me, there were definitely days I dragged my feet and even weeks I stopped working on it completely.
I really believe I wouldn't have gotten to this point if I hadn't read The One Thing. This book really helped me visualize my goals and helped me find a work pace that worked for me. You can read that in my blog. (TL;DR - Began with 3 goals. 1 of them being work on it every day for 4 hrs max)
Todays' a huge day in this journey because of my launch in Product Hunt. I've been scared to post this because
- I know there are other remote job boards out there. Self-conscious
- Others opinions might be negative
What got me through this mental block was the fact that, if they are critical it's not about me but about the site. The need to launch and get feedback is huge. I know I should've launched way sooner but I feel much more confident in my site now that I've worked on it for 5 months.
My goals with this launch are
- Get feedback on the site
- Increase traffic and aware of my site
- Get a paid subscriber

I remember doing my first launch on Product Hunt and didn't go well. I only had 6 upvotes. I rushed to launch, didn't really prepare for it, and genuinely thought my product would score high without doing much effort on marketing and building relationships. I learned it the hard way.
Last February, I launched again on Product Hunt with a different product but I did some serious preparations beforehand. Really polished my product, gathered extensive feedback, built lots of relationships, and gave stronger focus on marketing. Thankfully, it turned out well and my product made it to #1 Product of the day, now with 800+ upvotes.

Many of us have been there and have failed many times. But just don't give up, believe in your product, find the most effective way to execute your launches and once you find your group of loyal fans, you'll be on your way!
Thank you for sharing @qabil. I'd done a lot of research and read many blogs of other's experiences but it definitely feels different doing it vs reading it. I'm glad I launched and will keep working on it. I appreciate the warm and kind words.

What is the tech stack you used? 5 months is quite a long time
Thanks for the comment. yes 5 months is definitely a long time. I just kept kicking the show and tell part... It took 5 months for me to feel comfortable enough about the site and features to actually share.
The site was live probably within a couple weeks using heroku and ruby on rails.
If u can build the prototype with nocode tools / jobboard clone script and throw it on PH and IH, it may be better.
Let say u can finish the mvp within a month and launch. You won't self doubting yourself. You can also see the feedback in a shorter time
I completely agree with you. If I started over, I would've thrown this up way sooner.
Next one, I will make sure I have an MVP and make sure it's used asap.

Coincidentally, with my current startup, we originally started as a work-for-equity platform.
On that note, I found it conceptually a great sales pitch to companies, particularly startup companies and freelancers. But there's a lot of moving parts (we were focusing on the attribution and distribution of shares) and it really relied on the level of awareness from both founders and contributors, which to be honest isn't as high as you'd think.
But having said that, I think it's a very interesting puzzle for someone or company to crack. And your approach looks interesting as merely being the broker between company and worker. I'd recommend adding more resources on the actual equity part on your site.

Hi there. I've been doing regular milestone updates in IH. This definitely helps get the jitters out. This is the first public launch for the site. I also post in EntrepreneurRideAlong as I give milestone updates there as well.
I started working on Bootcamp Index about 5 months ago so know the feeling! It's good to launch so well done on doing that!

What was you strategy to get (quite a lot) of job postings prior to launch? Solving the chicken-egg problem is usually the must difficult part in this type of projects.
