5 User Acquisition Methods That Have Worked For Me! 👨‍💼

User acquisition is no joke and you might get tired with all the promotion work in front of the internet. 😩

I know it's becoming harder and harder to get your product out in front of other people. So I wanted to share with you guys some methods that have been working successfully for my product ruttl.

1. Listing Platforms
I have seen good success by doing this. After researching dozens of websites and listing platforms, I found this cool cheatsheet filled with places to list your product. This process brings in some traffic regularly.

2. Email Marketing To Waitlisted Users
Earlier this year, I had opened up ruttl for beta testing and get over 1500 people to sign up. Slowly, I started handing out access to them. These users are now converting into active users for us. One of them in fact became our first paying customer too!

3. Social Media Posts
Regular value driven posts on LinkedIn are generating good results as well. I am trying to completely utilize my LinkedIn network to get people to sign up.

4. PR and Press Coverage
Although this was a paid initiative, I tried experimenting with it. It surely did generate traffic to ruttl and drove some conversions, thanks to the influencers who promoted my product.

5. Landing Page Feature
Probably one of the best working methods for me till now, landing page featuring websites like Onepagelove featured my website and that got me to the front page of their website. This resulted in a spike and I got couple of users from that too.

      @dagorenouf Happy to share! Yeah so I came across a group of people who were doing PR for SaaS comapnies. After discussing, they turned out to be really nice. Although this process is still ongoing, would surely recommend anyone who has budget to allocate for this. If you want, I can get you in touch with them :)

      I've seen big upticks through these methods @IndieJames. Prior to executing these methods, average weekly visitors were around 20-30, now they usually hover anywhere between 400-500 roughly.

      Here's a priority chart -

      1. Landing Page feature
      2. Listing Platforms
      3. Email Marketing
      4. PR Press Coverage
      5. Social Media

      The best metric to measure is traffic generated, drop off rate and of course conversions if you have them setup inside google analytics and search console.

    I've been doing direct outreach for my video/podcast editor startup- it's painfully slow - but you learn a lot by having conversations too, and very effective so far!

    For us, some things that worked were cold email outreach (some success), creating events on Meetup.com (quite some success), and doing interviews with places like StarterStory.com.

      Meetups is a good idea actually @jochemg. I will try it out myself!

      As for the startup story, how do you approach these publication places?

        Cool, that's great! For many of these places, they want as many stories as possible. So for StarterStory, you can just create an account and then I believe reach out to them to ask for the interview!

        And if not, I would suggest to send an email or contact form, and put yourself in their shoes - consider the different reasons why it would be interesting for them to interview you and share it with their followers. Then use these reasons in your outreach message.
