Great read. The kids, relationship dynamic, and expectations as to when the app will make money vs the amount of hours put in... Thats surely a test for every developer.

Also if you dont mind sharing a technical question, which blog do you use to integrate with your platform?

Definitely a test—and something that's tough to quantify at the outset of any project. I see lots of founders these days taking a shotgun approach where they launch several ideas and ultimately choose to work on the one that gains traction most quickly. I think that can absolutely work, but you may also end up disregarding good ideas prematurely.

Our blog and website is on Webflow. Thanks for giving this post a read!

    Hi Geoff,

What a great article you wrote.

The part about selling an MVP too early was particularly familiar. I would go even further than your advice and say that if your product can be compared to anything then don't sell early.

On your idea validation interviews I think you are being too tough on yourself:

Yes, there was pain in integrating dozens of tools—but we didn’t push hard enough on whether that pain was acute enough to change the predominant behavior of developers.

Uclusion would have definitely gone with Outseta had we known it existed. We even did an interview with founders who were considering something Outseta like and said so. The difference between us and no code founders is just that the no code founders will spend more time searching for an alternative than we did.

If my goal was solely to maximize my income I would have taken a job at a large, well established tech company long ago.

Maybe but there are risks on that side as well - someone as progressive as you might have burnt out at the large tech company and ended up making less money.

Appreciate you giving the post a read! I completely agree with your pointing on selling too early if there are comparable products that your own won't stack up well against initially.

I'm happy to hear that as a technical team you'd consider something like Outseta and your point is well taken that there are risks at larger tech companies as well. Many of our customers burnt out at bigger tech co's then stuck out on their own and decided to use Outseta. Same could certainly happen to me!

All the best with Uclusion in 2022!
