50% off Lifetime Pro membership of Mindful Goals for IndieHackers - 50 slots only

Hey IndieHackers, I'd like to offer a discount on lifetime pro membership of Mindful Goals - for high achievers. I am in an agreement with an app distributor so I can only keep this deal before they start promoting it later this month.

IndieHackers inspired me to quit my job and work full time on my dream. It also helped me find the first few users who generously offered their insights on productivity, so this is my chance to give back a little.

Here is my story on what inspired me to created Goals.

While working full-time for other companies (Twitter, and TripAdvisor, etc), I've always had side-projects. However, there are too many things in life that beg for my limited attention, such as spending time with my wife, going to groceries, taking care of financials and taxes, going to the gym, visiting parents' place hours away by flight, learning new things for the job, catching up with friends, and networking, etc. As a result, my side-projects get dropped again and again, because nobody really cares about them other than myself.

Initially, I felt I was a loser. Good at nothing but doing a single job. Then I realized that failing at these things is normal. The world is changing fast and becoming increasingly more complex. I was only well trained and taught to code, not on managing my life. In fact, all modern humans are gonna have to play many roles and learn to do them well to have a happy life.

To get my life back, I started setting goals so I can nail my life's main areas one by one. I tried Wunderlist, Trello, Todoist, Asana, Fabulous, Google Sheet, and many other apps. But they don't make my goals feel native to them. It feels like a hack to tap multiple times to see the important details about my goals and my progress. The seemingly tiny frictions make them hard to use for long term goal tracking purposes.

Then I remembered how I thrived in my last year of college, context switching between 5 courses (4 of which were CS courses that required 80 hrs of coding projects each) and finished with a 3.4/4.0 GPA, up from 2.4/4.0 in the previous year. I built a little tool to track all the due dates and my current progress against the course work. I never missed another deadline or quiz day and allocated my time more intelligently. I felt less stressed about remembering things that don't require my immediate attention but are nonetheless critical to my mid-to-long term success.

My life is increasingly becoming more like my last year of college now. The "courses" I am "taking" are Learning (reading + online courses), Self Care (exercising + meditation + doing fun things once in a while), Family (wife + parents), Social (friends + networking), and Generating Income.

I feel so happy I can finally track all of these priorities in a dedicated goal tracking app that they deserve to be kept now, so I can focus on execution instead of memorization.

I hope it resonates and I wish you to have a successful 2020!

Hey there! I Just downloaded the app and tried to register via email, but I needed 4 attempts to pass the sign-up flow with the link in the email. I think it would be easier for users if you just sent a one-time password that can be entered manually. That would also allow people to open the otp email on their laptop for example. ;)

I also noticed an error on the upgrade page inside app, feel free to DM me on twitter so I can send you a screenshot. :)

One last question: Why do I have to register at all? Those are quite personal information I'm writing down in your app, and I'm not sure if I feel comfortable uploading those somewhere (unencrypted). Because other than that, I really love the idea behind your app, and it's design as well! :)

Thank you very much! Please send me the screenshot of what happened. It's a new feature because it's been requested by 3 people over the last few weeks so I shipped it 3 days ago.

I agree with your concern about privacy. I met a new friend from Germany and he told me don't read his data half-jokingly, but I took it very seriously. The reason sign-in is required is in preparation for the desktop version, so a server is needed to keep the data in sync. It also keeps iOS and Android synced if a user is logged in on both. It's kind of a corner case but nice when it works.

No one (including myself) actively reads users' content because I know it's very personal. Hopefully, I can find a way to encrypt the data or other measures to gain users' trust and demonstrate proper conduct.

Great to hear that you're taking this seriously, that's the way to gain trust! :)
