500 hours spent on my project, here is the breakdown

I'm bootstrapping a landing page builder & link-in-bio tool for esports, called 1980.gg.

Last week I crossed the 500 hours of work mark, and I launched my project publicly, after a private beta. I'm logging all tasks I'm doing on this project. I regrouped them in few categories to create this image chart of breakdown.

I’m curious, are you also logging the time you spend on your project? How does it look?

Details on each category

Development is the first category by a large margin with 302.5 hours (58.9%). It includes coding, deploying on cloud infrastructure, looking for technology solutions, and the time I spent learning new technologies for this project (Vue 3, Nuxt 3 and Supabase).

Then Design follows with 76 hours (14.8%), it includes user research and user interviews, creation of mockups and prototypes, and the conception of the interfaces in Figma.

Communication & Growth Strategy and Product Strategy are very close at this step of my project with 65 (12.6%) and 64 (12.4%) hours, but I expect the Communication & Growth Strategy to increase a lot in the coming weeks.

Communication & Growth Strategy covers my activities on social media around this project, the writing and blogging I did. I’m building in public, and I published online all information about my product discovery phase. And all the communication and actions I’m doing to spread the world about my project.

Product Strategy includes product discovery, my market strategy with my competitive analysis, my branding strategy, my ideas for the business model, etc. I think this category is undervalued because I spent a lot of not formal time thinking about this project (when walking, eating, taking my shower… I’m sure you see!)

Finally Miscellaneous with 7 hours (1.4%) regroups other tasks like accounting, creating accounts, etc.
