Sunday Stand Up! What's your epic for September?

Slept like a baby 👶🏾 today until 1 pm. Then went to work to realize I wasn't scheduled to work. 🙌🏾💃🏾 Taking the entire day off from my PT job, Envoy, and myself aka ambitions.

Gonna breathe a little and assess August. Might jot down a few thoughts & quick notes (reference for my week's documentation), but no guarantees. 😉 Don't want to be on the computer unless for entertainment purposes. Netflix recommendations welcome!

Sept EPIC is unknown until I reevaluate August progress, lessons, customer feedback, and insight. Tuesday I'll return with my answers to my Saturday retro & Sunday epic.

Hands up for that day off ! It happend once to me, but when I went to school...
      Have a good one !

    2. 2

I'm not a Netflix chick. But Chernobyl all day, every day on HBO! Hope you got some well-deserved rest!

    3. 2

Always good to step away for a little to recharge and assess!

    EPIC for Septembre:

    • Polishing the website localchef.fr
    • adding some content on the blog part (~3 posts would be good)
    • adding some content on the Instagram account LocalChef.fr
    • sharing one blog post with one foodie journalist
    • sharing one blog post with one instagram foodie influencer
    • having measurable feedbacks on the usability of the website from friends
    • having one feedback from one food truck owner in France on the usability of the website

Let's go full into the marketing now :)

    1. 1

That site looks cool @flog, what is it about exactly?

      1. 2

        Thanks
LocalChef connects the food trucks with the companies or individual that wants to book them for an event.
Why? After analyzing the market and communicating with food trucks operators, they explained to me that most of the city mayor in France refuse the authorization to the food trucks to sell on the public area. But they can sell on private land, hence the parking of companies.

        1. 1

Ahh, that's interesting. Can they also sell, in individuals houses, like house garage and so on?

It's an amazing idea... I would use it if I would need it.

          1. 1

Exactly! They can sell in parking spot of companies, in garden of house or garage and so on.

For September I have two goals:

    1. A new macOS product, no name and no details yet as I am working it out, but it is a fairly simple one. Got the MVP working within a weekend, so that's promising.
The idea is that this product will be available from the Mac App Store.
Also still need to work out how-to monetize it.

    2. Release a 64 bit version of Vimalin (https://vimalin.com ) so that it also runs on macOS Catalina. Got the main parts working on 64 bits, but I'm sure that there will be some more issues before it is done.

    1. 2

What?! Look who is back in town! Yes. Yes. Yes.

  4. 2

👋 This months core task is to release FabFit’s iOS and Android app. I’ve been working on it for about 5 weeks, the next two weekends should be enough time to get it over the line.

If you’re interested you can see the progress here https://twitter.com/JamieHalvorson/status/1168229109144723456?s=20

Aside from the app I need to:

    • fix a few bugs in the web app
    • update our Stripe implementation to support SCA.
    • edit 10 new classes and 2 marketing videos

    Epic for September:

  6. 2

(Grinning) Thanks, @louisswiss, for the psyche massage! And @helengriffinjr. I see you, chick. And appreciate the pep talk.

Truth is, however, that I very well may quit Mane Moguls.

The point of last month's epic was to see whether I could match or supersede the earnings of my first course. And the answer was a resounding "no". (First round was $6K, and the second round was $1K.) Do I continue to experiment, despite receiving a damn, clear answer?

However, lack of revenue isn't the only issue:

    ( 1 ) I miss coding - I miss building shit; and

( 2 ) I left the realm of hair manufacturing behind for a reason. I craved a new challenge in a new arena. Still do. I'll admit @csallen's suggestion that I was working too hard for too little return lured me into returning to an industry I already knew. When the money came quickly with the MVP, it was easy to ignore that inner voice asking, "Is this what you want to do?" But now that I have to fight to earn a return, I likely haven't the interest to maintain the commitment required.

I've no idea what will be my epic for this month. I've no idea if I will continue Mane Moguls. And if not, I've no idea what I'll do next.

Heading out for a hike today to do some contemplation.

    1. 3

      Sure!

Don't have much time right now to go in depth, but I wanted to add some food for thought here.

You seem surprised about not reaching your revenue goal. Is that a lesson you can take from mane moguls?

Was there a way you could have tested and made sure your revenue expectations were in line with reality before spending so much time and money creating the product?

I hope you don't take this as me kicking you when you're down - that's not the intention!

But maybe this could help you fail much faster (or not) on your next project ;)

      1. 1

Surprised? I had no expectation either way. (Smiling) Although I was hopeful! The point of the epic was to find the hell out!

I think I went about this right away. (But always up for suggestions!) The MVP was up, running and proven within a month. However, in terms of cost for the Evergreen approach, I absolutely could have been scrappier. For whatever reason, I refused to do a webinar... until I had no choice. Not only was that sucker much cheaper than attempting to shoot the courses, I surprisingly enjoyed the interaction.

    2. 2

Followed things from a distance (too much other things going on) and was impressed by your new project.

Don't know if your mane moguls was aiming for US only or if Europe et al. was also in the picture. If so then beware that most of Europe just returned from a long holiday. Something that might have affected your revenue.

I agree with you however that for your own product/project it is important to do things you want to do.

      1. 2

Sooooo goood to have you back in the mix! If only we could get @davey and @andrew back in here!

US also has a major holiday this week. Which could have easily impacted sales. I do plan to give it a second run in October and see if the results are any different!

But my primary focus will be finding something to build!

        1. 1

Thanks for the warm welcome back!

Will try to be part of the daily stand-up crew again. There's still some consulting work that I will have to do besides working on my own products. But it looks like that it will be calm for a bit, so more time for other things.

Having a new idea to build is good, it keeps the blood flowing and keeps things exciting, so I can certainly relate to that.

Saw you already boiled it down to "build something for iOS", so that's a start.

    3. 2

@Janice, I definitely get it. You know I'm here for ya. Do what's healthy for you and the business. All of this takes time and the right timing. Plus, so many factors go into these type of decisions. I got faith in you and your journey. Keep your head up!

      1. 2

Thank you, chick! I'm following your lead today and taking a day the hell off.
