What motivates people to join social media platforms like Flipboard or Pinterest?
I honestly don't see either of those products as a social media platform, to me they each provide me personal a benefit, e.g. Flipboard - Visual news feed of my interests, Pinterest - A 'Google Images' for inspiration and ideas.
Not sure about Flipboard, but Pinterest is great for a lot of visual stuff like graphic design or 3d artwork, the option to categorize everything into different boards and then to browse similar artworks to the ones you've saved is amazing. Also the ability to save something from anywhere on the internet in one place. Like, Behance is great and all, but you can only favorite stuff from behance, but on pinterest you can save stuff from everywhere so its really the convenience of having everything in one place and then the ability to look for similar stuff in the same place.
Great. Thanks for your comment. So Pinterest is basically a social bookmarking site so people like it
In many ways, yes. It also seems more maker-oriented than social bookmarking because of the board setup–pin recipes, plan DIY projects, create a mood board, etc. Most users I know are collecting info for future reference, but not actually contributing content. The social network part seems very secondary–following people (and brands) that align with your interests.
I can talk about pinterest. I am totally addicted to it. I keep track of several things that I like, hobbies: street art, specific artists, ui trends etc. If you want to talk, I am available.
I use Pinterest as great source of inspiration, following high quality streams of my interest. I personally don't post 'my content'.
