553% Rev Increase. The importance of getting other people to talk about your product.

First of all, let me mention that this is probably going to be a bit harder if you don't have any sort of previous relationships with the people mentioning the product. So, it's important to always talk to people in the space that you are at, specially if they are content creators/educators in the space.

What made this big increase?

Before my latest product launch I messaged a few creators that are in the same space as me. (I've made 400+ tutorials on DaVinci Resolve, so I also have some sort of base to go from) I sent them a free copy of my latest product and also an affiliate link. (40% comission)

One of the creators just published a video mentioning the product and this is driving a good amount of traffic to it. It was not even a product review video, it was just mentioning a couple of different products by creators in the space.

So, is this a life changing amount?.... no😅, but it definitely solidifies PMF.

What are some key lessons?

  • Try to get other people to talk about your products, specially if they are leaders in the space. But even if they are not, it is still valuable because if people that might be interested in your product see other REAL people talking about it, then that adds an extra layer of trust.

  • Don't be afraid of paying out good comissions, this will make people more willing to mention your product.

  • I have to find some more people willing to mention the product.

  • Great way to have your product links in more than one place.

Why this is a bit of a unique scenario.

  • The other creator that mentioned the product has about 50k subscribers on YouTube.

  • I have around 7k YouTube subscribers, 400+ videos/tutorials posted over the past couple of years, so that builds a bit of authority/trust.

  • The tool I've built is probably the only tool that does that in the space, but is a bit of a niche space, so, I'm not sure about the scalability of it yet.

  • These are 1 time product purchases, so it's not MRR (unfortunately).

  • It's pretty low ticker $39.99. (I need to create some upselling opportunities for it)

Plans for the Near Future.

  • I have to get more creators to talk about the product.

  • I need to create more content mentioning and featuring the product.

  • I need to check out the possibility of running ads for it.

If you want to check out the product, you can find it at paperfoldfx.com

What do you guys think I should do next? Any recommendations/advice?

The creator partnership play is underrated -- and your data backs it up. One thing worth knowing before you explore paid ads: for creative tools in niche communities (especially tutorial-heavy audiences like DaVinci Resolve), ad-sourced buyers almost always have lower LTV than community-sourced ones. The trust transfer just doesn't happen the same way.

If you do run Meta ads eventually, test with video creatives that look like your tutorial style rather than polished ad creative. Tutorial audiences often convert better when the ad feels native to how they already consume content.

    interesting!

This is great. Having an audience/network makes marketing much easier.

Are you a developer? What language do you use to build Davinci plugins?

    1. 2

Nope 😅 I build everything inside DaVinci Resolve. There are a few small things that I edit directly in the code (which is in FusionScript) with VSC, like adding labels and such. But other than that I don't know much about coding.

Basically I've built stuff from the knowledge that I've gotten from working on different client projects and such over the years. I've been freelancing doing animations/explainers and such using it.

What strategy would you recommend to someone who doesn't have a strong networking in youtube ?

First of all.... get started if you are fine with using that medium, and also if your target market is in that medium.

Second, make sure you are offering something valuable.

Third... it will probably feel like you are wasting your time for a long while... unless you get lucky and get a good amount of traction right away.

Fourth, even if you don't have one, try connecting with creators in the space and building relationships with them. That way it would be easier to create partnerships that benefit both parties. (I have another creator that's going to do a video on it sometime in the near future, so I'll have to analyze the result from that as well and see if it's similar).

Awesome! I'm also trying to use Youtube to gain more audience — nice to see that it works :)

It does! but it also really depends. Like, sometimes I felt that I was giving out too many products for free so then that didn't really motivate people to look into the paid ones. But who knows, there's probably a balance to get to where there is enough free stuff but also the paid stuff is so good that event the people that are used to freebies want to pay for it.

But making content will definitely teach you a lot of things.
