58 users, 41% active, and 2 B2B leads from my own product. Here is what the first real signal looks like.

58 users on the platform. 41% active.

I know that sounds small. But that 41% activation rate matters more to me right now than the raw signup count.

Here is why: every user who stuck around came from my own network. People I already knew fit the ICP I was building for. That was not an accident. It was the strategy.

Building + getting real feedback from the right people at the same time has been worth more than any growth hack. When your early users are the exact person you designed for, you stop guessing. Their drop-off points are your product roadmap. Their "aha moments" confirm your positioning.

The more interesting signal: 2 B2B leads generated through outbound, using my own platform.

Yes, slow to close. That is just how B2B works. But the fact that the channel created its own leads is a meaningful proof point. The product is not just solving the problem I described in landing page copy. It is actually doing it in production, for real campaigns, including mine.

That feedback loop is the thing I keep coming back to. I am the ICP. I use the product every week to run outbound. I feel every friction point firsthand. And when something works, I know it works on the hardest test case there is: someone who knows exactly what a good result looks like.

What I am watching now:

  • Activation depth: are active users completing full campaigns or just setting up inboxes?

  • Reply quality: qualified replies and booked calls, not open rates

  • Retention signal: do they come back the following week?

If you are building a product where you are also the user, I would love to hear how you think about separating founder intuition from actual product validation. It is a messy line to walk.

The founder-as-ICP trap I watch for is whether strangers describe the pain in their own words before I explain it. If activation stays high after you remove handholding, that feels like a much cleaner signal than raw signups.

Honestly, 41% activation from the right users is a way stronger signal than random signup volume. Also agree on the founder/ICP point. The biggest validation is when other users complain about the exact same friction points you noticed yourself.

Activation rate from the right people is the real signal. Signup volume is just vanity.

The clearest moment for me was when the 3rd and 4th founder complained about the exact same friction I had personally felt doing outbound myself. That is when I knew I was not just building for myself anymore. That is product-market fit starting to form.

How are you tracking activation, by specific in-app actions or by external outcomes like replies or meetings booked?
