I have been running Creatosaurus for close to 4 years now and have been documenting my work very inconsistently as vlogs but recently I have again started to build in public with weekly drops on YouTube.
One thing I learned is that retaining talent is the key to your startup growth and today I'm going to share 7 points that I have learned in my journey.
1. Hiring
- It all starts from your first interaction with the candidate.
- I proceed with a casual call and in that conversation, you will have the gut feeling about the candidate being a good fit for your startup.
- Hire a candidate which is perfect for your startup.
2. Truth
- I always say the truth even it means that I would lose the member. (Fun fact: This has helped the most in retaining)
- Never give false commitments. I commit to what I can deliver to my team members.
- Trust builds more trust.
3. Transparency
- Our team members know in and out about our business, clients and revenue.
- Openly discussing the good and the bad points.
- Being vulnerable and accepting it
- Asking for help is good.
4. Culture
- Starting from my first call to our day to day discussions, culture impacts the most.
- Stating the vision, mission & goals clearly and believing in the team that we can reach the end of the journey together.
- Culture is your day to day decisions and behaviour.
5. Relation building
- It's not about the weekly casual call it's about being friendly.
- I try to see the common points between me and the team and bond & build a relationship with every individual.
- This creates a relationship deeper than just professional work.
6. Work
- Working on their personal and professional growth, so that they can also excel in their life.
- Team constantly needs new & exciting things to work upon, monotony is the biggest contributor to attrition.
- It's not always work, work, work... remember that.
7. Good things fall apart
- Sometimes few stay together.
- Sometimes it's better if they leave.
- It's not about who left you, it's about who is with you till the end of the journey that matters.
- Don't get obsessed over candidates.
- Sometimes moving apart is better.
In the end, keep that spark alive ✨⚡️
