Sponsoring an event is a time-honored way for businesses to market themselves. It's a way to get in front of potential customers and create goodwill with the community.
But it's not just about marketing; sponsoring an event can also have other benefits for your business. Here are several reasons you should sponsor an event, even in today's digital age.
Small business owners who want to get involved with their industry community should consider sponsoring an event. This is a great way to show support for the community and network with other businesses.
For example, a cosmetic company should sponsor an event for stylists and beauty influencers. They'll not just create brand awareness, they'll also take a step toward becoming a household name.
Also, when choosing an event to sponsor, selecting one that aligns with your company's values is essential. For example, if you are a sustainable business, you may want to sponsor an event that focuses on environmental issues. By aligning your company with the event, you will be able to reach a new audience and build brand awareness. Sponsoring an event is a great way to give back to the community and showcase your company's values.
When it comes to publicity, there's no such thing as bad press. And that's especially true for businesses that sponsor major events in their niche or industry. By aligning themselves with a high-profile event, businesses can reap many benefits, from increased brand awareness to enhanced customer relations.
Not to mention, sponsoring an event can also be a great way to generate new leads and grow your customer base. Of course, all this comes at a price. But ultimately, the exposure and goodwill a business can gain from sponsoring an event are well worth the investment. So, if you're looking to boost your business, consider sponsoring an upcoming event in your industry. It could be the best decision you ever make.

I've heard that gimmicks are a huge help at events. Like, I remember reading a post from an indie hacker who wore a giraffe costume to some event. It had a super long neck so everyone could see him from miles around. And everyone was talking about him because, well, what a weirdo. It had nothing to do with his company, but he said he talked to a lot of people.
I've always wanted to try something like this. If I do it, I'll just try to have fun with it — I think it could actually have a negative impact by getting too salesy.
I saw this post and wanted to jump in with my two cents. As someone who knows a thing or two about event planning, I can tell you that sponsoring an event is a great way to market your biz and get new leads. If you're in a specific industry, getting involved with the community is super smart. It gives you a chance to meet other businesses, show off your brand to the right people, and build up your reputation. Plus, sponsoring an event can be a great way to get your name out there and make some new connections.
Sponsoring online events can be really fruitful too. A lot of times you can get some great publicity and maybe even more importantly some backlinks out of the deal. I've had friends who have sponsored popular non-profits and have really boosted their SERP rankings.
While reading through hundreds of founder interviews I found 3-4 mentions of sponsoring events and 0 of them were successful. This post provides 0 first-hand experience and 0 third-party experience that sponsoring events “works” for getting new users.
Ya know, a lot of marketers say that this is a good idea, but I just don't see it. Not for indie hackers anyway. These days, everything happens online. Sure, you can get customers offline. But the best ROI will come from the content you put out online — hands down. Of course, there are exceptions, but they're few and far between IMO.
Just my two cents.
And with that said, if you want to network, meet other people with similar interests, find investors, etc. (and who doesn't?), then there's no better place than niche events.
Great rundown — thank you for sharing. I think an added benefit that sponsors should look for is content collaboration leading up to the event. Try to hop on a zoom call with the event host and have a valuable conversation to your audience. Or write an article — perhaps a Q&A — with someone from the event and publish it. They'll likely share it with their audience and then you have a conduit to a bigger crowd.
Thanks for the post. I think I should start finding sponsors for the next WBE Space event
Great post, we did this few times with some events in our previous company and we got enhanced brand image. Good points.
Great post @syedbalkhi as always
