#looking-for-cofounder | Beaker | Co-founder | NYC | Full Time | https://www.hellobeaker.com/

Chemist seeks engineering co-founder for Beaker, an early-stage startup bringing transparency and accountability to consumer goods.

Beaker leverages chemical expertise and a proprietary ingredient database to drive data-backed insights on product efficacy, quality, and safety. Think translator of scary chemicals into plain English. We’re looking into what exactly makes a product good, and how to communicate that through brand voice, without sacrificing scientific rigor.

Technical co-founder should be able to work as an independent engineer, with the idea of eventually running product development for Beaker’s full suite of tools. Technology stack is flexible. Full stack is preferred. Co-founder will play an active role in developing Beaker’s tech based on personal interest--as long as they’re down to fix the way consumers think (or don’t) about the chemicals in their everyday lives.

Hey Lizzy, I'm a techie web designer, but not a dev. I have a great mind for product & marketing with a background in digital media & visual communications. Have put my mind to startup stuff over the past couple of years. I struggle with MCS (multiple chemical sensitivity) and have put serious thought into building a database platform that would provide info to consumers. Definitely sounds like my jam. Based in Calgary. Would love to chat, as I think this could be done sans-code. At least for a little while.

Hi! @TJmakes can you shoot me an email? I'd love to chat.

What is the product being sold? Is the concept to provide product reviews?

Hi! A more powerful product review tool is in the works...along with several other applications. Beaker's main product is a freemium translator for consumer chemicals to/from plain English. It's a search tool that gets at exactly what an ingredient is, and what it means for your health and beauty. This app utilizes the same core function as the beefier products still in development (and in stealth mode). I'd be happy to talk to you more specifically if you're interested!

    Hey Lizzy!

I'm currently deep in the middle of a project but think your idea is awesome! Also based in NYC. Always rooting for NYC entrepreneurs! Best of luck

    Hi Lizzy,
I'm sure you know but tech co-founders (especially full stack) can take their pick at most high paying companies so you have to really convince someone that's worth their grain of salt to partner up with you.

As someone that is vetting oppotunities and is a full stack engineer, if I was hypthetically already interested in the idea, I'd ask:

    • What's your biz model, how would you make money?
    • Do you have customers?
    • Do you have any go-to market strategies?

Good devs like to see plans so that they know their work is being balanced by business strategy.

Hi! A great point. The ^cofounder posting was too vague to speak to the biz dev side, but rest assured it's all in place. I'd be happy to speak to you more specifically about it, if you are interested. This IH post is mostly meant to get my mission out there. Ultimately, I want a cofounder who is more excited about the opportunity to fix consumers' relationship with the chemicals in their everyday lives than in a salary and good equity.

Thanks for sharing this! Beaker already has a business model; we're just intentionally vague about it while we're still in stealth mode. I'd be happy to share more if you're interested!
