Hi Indie Hackers, Would you go on a retreat to be able to work on your side project?

Yes if:

• It's not far from where I live
• It's with people I know I will learn something
• I know I will learn something I need... which can be pretty specific for everybody I guess

Looking at your landing page I would directly want to know more about the location. I would not want to travel far for just a short retreat.

For example I live in Berlin and I would love to attend such a retreat if it's just outside of the city and I can reach it by public transport. But I would not fly or take any transportation that takes longer than a few hours.

For working on my project, I only retreat to my room (where I have a large monitor, ergonomic keyboard, fast desktop computer, etc).

I do retreat into nature to take breaks from work, though.

Increasingly I'm getting picky-er with who I spend my time with. I'd be interested in this type of thing:

• if I knew who I was meeting
• if those people I would be meeting would overlap with who I am or what I'm trying to work towards
• if the location wasn't too far away.
• if I could meet people I could help, but also meet people who could help/inspire me.

It's hard to say if this would represent an increase or a decrease to productivity. I'm leaning towards decrease.

Ha! I'm taking Friday off and getting a hotel for 3 days to focus on my side project THIS weekend! So, yes!!

For me, however, it would have to be something close and cheapish. If it's a side project that likely means money is not totally sorted out yet on the founder's side. I would also want the travel to be very easy. The last thing I want is a stressful or long journey when what I really want is to be working on a side project.

I live in NYC and let me tell you it is hard to find a good option for this kind of thing. Maybe you could focus on a solution close to big cities and very easy and nonstressful to get to.

Cost and location is important, an hour flight from London and ideally something that's a little cheaper than a holiday would be perfect.

Personally no. I have a full time job and a family and very limited vacation time, so my side projects by necessity (and definition!) have to fit around these. One day meetups and seminars are doable but multiple day retreats - including travel time - would be impractical.

Yeah sure, if something came up near where I live, I'd consider taking a few days to get started on a project.

I do retreats annually - a big part of my year. I’m not sure I’d use any resources to connect with others though.
