Can't wait for the day you say a show is pushing its users to use the app on their podcast ;-)

That website and the idea sounds familiar. Have you posted about this in the past on IH? (Just curious and trying to connect dots haha)

Good luck with the frontend stuff today. Are you going full native of phone apps, or using a JS-style framework or something?

      1. 3

I've posted this in comments in the daily standup posts a few times. I've only been active on IH for a couple weeks. The idea itself is not new, and there are a few notable players (Bump from earlier this decade for example). If you look at the history of this type of app, it's almost all notable failures. This is because, in order to swap contact details, both parties need the app. Fortunately for me, this is not a serious business attempt and more of just a side-project. I figured since I was building it, I might as well build a landing page and think through the value proposition.

As for the tech. The app is built with React Native. It's hard to justify building two native apps for a side project. Also, using JS for the front end as well as the back-end (node) lets me limit the number of new technologies I need to learn.

        1. 1

Ah, maybe it was just a similar template I saw on another IH post :)

It's cool that you're putting the time into releasing and pushing a side project. We're all learning how to do this, and the best education is doing stuff!

Was just curious about the tech. I think React Native (or NativeScript or whatever) is the best option for IHers unless they already know/love mobile dev. I think you're doing the right thing. I'm the same way, except Rails backends because I love my Ruby haha.

          1. 1

Yeah, I'd agree. RN is a great way to go. Although Ionic or PhoneGap might work as well, depending on preference.

The landing page probably looks familiar because I made it with carrd.co and they only have a limited number of templates.

I didn't pick up on your 15 woman-written stories either. Nice!

      1. 1

Thank you kind sir... I had a slow start this month, but we'll see if I can't catch up on those epics!

    2. 2

      great job!

It's probably way down the road, but I wonder if the exchanges that produce couples couldn't be packaged, with permission from users of course, and monetized in some way. Your approach via storytelling could produce some really good content, but it could be tricky avoiding the feeling of oversight that might imply.

Maybe a 100% opt-in option so any users are aware before they start writing? just spit-ballin

      1. 1

We're on the same page! That's the primary reason I developed the app with a separate front end and back end. The idea being that someday, when I've lots of content, I could create another front end just for consumers.

And you're absolutely right. Privacy and anonymity will be critical!
