Hi everyone,
I recently launched an MVP called Grantvera.
It’s a collaboration layer on top of Google Sheets that lets owners share specific ranges, control which cells are editable, and enforce input validation, without exposing the full sheet or compromising spreadsheet data.
Since Jan 1st, I’ve had 80+ unique visitors. But Zero signups!
My current hypotheses:
If you landed on the page, what would stop you from clicking “Sign Up”?
Be blunt. I’m trying to figure out whether this is a positioning problem, a trust problem, or a product-market-fit problem.
Thanks.
The concept makes sense, but I had to read twice to fully understand what it does.
The pain is real (Google Sheets + multiple editors = chaos), but I’m not sure the urgency is obvious from the headline alone.
“Share specific ranges” feels technical. I’d probably frame it more around the outcome: something like “Let clients update your sheet without breaking formulas.”
Also, asking for Google Drive permissions is a big trust jump for a brand-new product. You might need stronger social proof or a very clear demo before people feel comfortable clicking sign up.
I don’t think it’s a bad idea — but right now it feels like a clarity + trust hurdle more than a traffic problem.
Thank you so much for the feedback, I truly appreciate your time and effort.
I will take every point you mentioned into consideration and work on it.
Thank you.
How long did it take you to feel confident about your startup’s positioning, and would you pay for a tool that helped you get there in under an hour?
Hi Omar, I had a look at your landing page. It looks good, and I do understand what it does ok, seemed pretty clear to me, and I get the value prop. From my POV i don't think the problem is urgent enough, perhaps not big enough to warrant signing up for a new service. I understand the problem, but it's not a problem i've ever had, so it could be that this is too niche, or it could be you just haven't managed to connect with people having this problem yet. I'm curious what validation has been done around the problem, do you have people telling you that this is something they need etc, or is it more solving a problem for yourself?
Hi,
Thanks for the comment. I appreciate your feedback.
Well, I must say that I have changed the copy and the illustration on the landing page after @goping commented on the clarity issue. I think the original version had clarity issues indeed. I'm also working on removing the trust barrier by removing the drive.file scope permission from the signup process and deferring it to when it is actually needed inside the dashboard.
Honestly, I didn't talk to anyone. The idea started as a side project, I wanted to build something to get into full stack web development (I was a .net windows developer), then I started looking for a challenging idea to implement and this concept kept popping up in multiple Google Sheets communities, people need more control on how they share their sheets. So I thought why not? Let me build an MVP and see what happens. And here we go!
I realize this is not the best way to go with. I did some research, and I think the problem really exists and the pain is real, but I don't know if it is urgent enough that people are willing to use a tool to solve it and pay for it.
I see, so you did identify a problem that people were having then. Did you talk to anyone in those Google Sheets communities, if that is where people who are having the issue are hanging out? Maybe that is the way to get some early users to try it out? I do agree that removing as much friction as possible with signup and permissions etc is a good move.
I tried a couple of times, but unfortunately didn't get a response back. I'm planning to focus on this as my next step, connect with people who has this problem on Sheets communities and try to trigger a discussion with them instead of just promoting a product.
