I'm currently using Trello to manage tasks and backlog. I've used Asana and Pivotal in the past too. While they all have different pros/cons, it more comes down to how you use the tools. I'm curious what others are using for managing tasks/activities and different practices others are using that work for them. What is your favorite management tool and why?

I used a JIRA, Asana, Trello and most recently https://kanbanize.com which I liked a lot.
However, in all of these tools, I missed projection capability - where the tool (based on your past performance) tells you when you will complete your milestones or show where you will be (let's say) 2 weeks from now. So that you know if you are on track with your project or not.

This is why I started working on https://www.storyhub.io

      projection capability would be big

I have projection capability already implemented in StoryHub.io

I am the creator of placker.com that adds planning, tracking and reporting to Trello.

One of the views that work well for this are our daily/weekly/monthly planner. Simple lists generated based on the due date that will tell you where you expect to be the next days/weeks/months, this works great for bottom up planning of your activities.

You can also use a gantt to visualize your progress or generate a completion graph to show you how you are doing against your planned timelines.

Trello is a god send for us! We use it daily to manage tasks and to do lists. it also makes your team accountable for there work

How so? How are you able to keep team accountable?

Highly customisable, but only one free project (for more you have to pay): Taiga (taiga.io). You have a lot of options, can adapt it for scrum or kanban or make it really simple for small projects.

This is the first I've heard of taiga. Just signed up. Very interesting that it allows you to import from other tools. Giving it a spin now!

Cool. We use this tool on-premise also in the company I'm working for. Therefore I know that this solution can scale great and has a really many different options.

We use Trello at work for all our tasks. Each column is assigned to someone in our team. When that task is completed, it's moved to another column called done, ready to be invoiced.

I‘ve recently fallen in love with notion.so. Not only for tasks but also for documentation. Really simple and all in one place

What do you mean by 'for documentation'? How does it help with that. Sounds promising!

Basically notion is based on databases and pages. You can build anything from tasklists, calenders, spreadsheets and so on. I use it for roadmaps, tasks and documenting my progress in pages. You should really check it out.

I've used Trello, Basecamp, Asana, Jira and recently Mural...all have their pluses for cross location collaboration...but nothing beats post-it notes and a sharpie for personal productivity in my opinion. Trello is the one I always return to tho, just because it's so simple ;-)

Yeah, that's why I like Trello. for the simplicity. I was thinking of using Github issues too

No experience of Github issues but you hit the nail on the head...it comes down to how you use it...if it makes you take action, use it!!

For daily tasks, I do something similar. Since university, I've had a 'Daily Top Three' which I plan nightly for the next day. I recently wrote an app for personal use. If you're interested I could share it (might need to polish it a bit first!)
