I had a lightbulb moment tonight in the gym, here was my rambling commentary summed up:
"When in doubt, PIVOT! Don’t get so caught up in ego, romantic hustle porn realities and what you “think” the market wants. Feel like you aren’t making progress or sales aren’t going well? Consider modifying your business model/offerings. Profitability is key, not building a shiny object."
Long story short, for the last year I have built a project that is long overdue out of perfectionism, anxiety and other issues. Eventually, I burnt out really bad but I still had a lot to show for. For the last month I haven't done much in regards to the project after going beta with it, but tonight I had the inspiration to transition the product from a SaaS/community to a product whether it be an ebook/productized package or course.
Just wanted to be transparent with you all as I feel like I've gotten all the fire back and that this route will be much more profitable. If anything I can make back what I've put in expenses wise and move on for good.
tldr; Don't give up just yet! Pivot or repurpose/salvage your efforts!
Love this mentality. It is very up to date with certain practices revolving around Product Management. Testing lots of ideas quickly, analyzing the results, and adjusting (Agile), is basically what you summed up but slightly a more Macro level.
All in all, you seemed to have hit the nail on the head with the value of pivoting and not getting caught up in "hustle porn" (GREAT phrase by the way). Sometimes failure is required to get to the root of a great idea, so keep that inspirational fire burning!
