Ask IH: Do job seekers ever need a place to share resume online?

Ask IH: Do job seekers ever need a place to share resume online?

Hi all,

This is more of an opinion from others than anything else. What's your opinion showing your resume file on a URL.

The more, the better.

LinkedIn is not really sharing your resume online. Employers (from my experience) don't like LinkedIn that much. I don't personally like it as well.

We use linkedin all the time as a signal and validation point for a job candidate. Much harder to "fake" a good linked in profile. Whether you personally like it or not, people responsible for hiring need it.

Yeah sure. Of course, if people use LinkedIn a lot then I can't really deny that. That's a good point about "faking".

Have you done research to back that up? I work in a software company in this industry and by colleagues are recruiters. They're not employers but they use it all the time because they know all candidates use it.

I usually have my resume hosted on a github page or a Dropbox link for easy access.

What's your opinion on https://www.showject.com. It's something I've been working on that solves this issue.

Looks like a cool product but I wouldn't use something like this.

Keeping your profile up to date on the variety of platforms is already enough of a pain.

I see in another comment that you don't like LinkedIn. The reason LinkedIn is great because all the other resume listing websites or job portals can import data from that platform. Using LinkedIn means less data entry.

Thanks. I appreciate your honesty. There isn't much information to update really. Just a resume probably need to be updated.

I was planning to do this. The best would be to have an html version of your resume on your personal website and then offer the option there to download as PDF.
