878 AI sessions in 86 days. The tool I built to be productive became a place to hide.

Since November I've been building a personal AI system. Four markdown files give it memory across sessions. It knows my psychology, my goals, my avoidance patterns.

878 sessions later, I queried the database. Some highlights:

What got built:

  • Personal AI system: 278 sessions (43 days)
  • Client work: 190 sessions (21 days)
  • 3D data visualization app: zero to deployed with payments in 10 days
  • AI deception research game: hit Hacker News front page

What I learned:

  • 30% of sessions produced nothing. Planning loops, empty greetings, tinkering with the system itself.
  • "I'll do it tomorrow" appeared 12+ times. Never once meant tomorrow.
  • All 8 deep reflection sessions came from voice input. Zero from typing.
  • Same self-doubts recycled monthly. Each time felt new. Data says otherwise.

The fix: the AI now calls out avoidance in real time using my own data. "Tomorrow" triggers a pushback. Self-doubt gets met with evidence of past wins. Research gets capped at 2 hours.

Now testing screen recording so the AI sees what I actually do, not just what I tell it.

Would love to hear if anyone else is building something similar.
