Hi, I need to get a beta out for my product asap, how much research is sufficient at this stage? Ive created the personas, interviewed potential user and done a survey. Is it time to start prototyping? Thanks!
Depends of your experience I would say, of the money invested on that and on the product of course.
For a digital product you can simply launch a landing page without have made the product yet, launch some ads for few days and you will have returns from your audience.
This can be usefull in many ways. And also see what can of audience it really is !
If it's your first product I would recommand you to start fast,, without over thinking, Just keep the beta simple.
The sooner the better because you would learn much more practically when you are in the process of building and selling.
I was going to say the same, when you start building (even a five days MVP) everything you have done (surveys, landing pages, paid ads) don't worth anything. That's why I always recommend focusing on learning from your competition and building quick MVPs (or selling directly) instead of throwing surveys or creating random landing pages, which seems to be very popular these days

With those interviews were you able to find the answers for the most risky assumptions of your project?
I'll give my project as an example. I'm running a landing page and interviewing people because I need to know if the problem I want to solve is a real problem in my target market. If it's not a problem I didn't waste a lot of time coding a solution for problem nobody has. If it is, I can move forward and build a MVP to explore possible solutions.
This is the kind of risky assumption I'm referring to.
But yeah, it really depends on what stage of the project you are and what is your target market. It might be easier for us to contribute if you give us more information about your project and your market.
I think it really depends on what the product is and which industry you are in. Some insight into how your interviews went and how you ended up with your personas would really help people here to give guidance. Right now you’ve indicated you “need a beta ASAP” and then ask whether you need it ASAP. It sounds like your research says yes but spending time building the wrong sort of beta might give you what I call bad data.
