Hello Non Coder startup owners where did you find your developer team?

Others are chiming in with suggestions, allow me to offer an anti-suggestion. Anyone outside your friends & family who will work for equity is probably not going to be very good at building the app for you. The reason is simple -- there's so much demand for developers that only those with the weakest negotiating positions (or prices high enough to offset) will accept equity for compensation.

Find a team that wants to be paid and figure out how to pay them.

It does not have to be the best match, so it helps to be open-minded. Even if it does not work out with the first team members , you will have progressed and gotten closer to a set up that eventually can lead to accomplishing your goals.

It was back then when I was with HP and met a whole bunch of talented developers from India. We were part of the same team in a large internal project for the company. One day I was laid-off -- me and other 3500 people BTW -- but before I leave I contacted the Indian team and asked them if they were interested in starting a web dev company with me. Their reaction was: "You don't want us for that... we're too expensive for you. But I'll give you my cousin's phone. Give him a call. He is starting a small dev company out of Ahmedabad. They might be the right fit for you cost wise." I did call him and from that point, we started a nice partnership that lasted 5 years.

What I've done several times is find a small team that can build your MVP before you go and try to hire developers.

You'll learn a lot from them but you'll also force yourself to boil down your idea into only elements that are essential to an MVP.
