What is the difference between a Maker and an Indie Hacker in your mind?

🤔 Or is there no difference?

Myself and Hiten are doing research on makers. We’re digging in to learn:

Makers make for the sake of making. Indie Hackers care about generating revenue from the things they create. Of course there are makers who are indie hackers, too, and there are likely some indie hackers who don't enjoy the "making" part of their business.

Thanks for replying, Courtland! That's interesting.

In my mind makers are more product-oriented whereas indie hackers are more biz-oriented, which is pretty close to what you said.

Interesting story: Last January we put the IH community on Product Hunt, it got to #1, and there was a huge influx of makers from PH. For the next few weeks I got numerous complaints from IHers that the culture on the forum had changed and become overly focused on launching things with no revenue.

Here’s one of the relatively recent (since I joined) topics on makers vs IHs that generated quite a discussion. I think you can find some info there.
