Planning to launch a podcast about failed startup founders, anyone interested in hosting it?
Hey! It's Rich, maker of Failory, a content site for entrepreneurs.
Thousands of Failory users have requested me to create a podcast of interviews with failed startup founders. I've been thinking about this idea for the last three months and believe it is a great growth strategy that will allow me to bring many new customers and some new money from sponsorships.
I've thought about interviews with entrepreneurs who had a failed startup but now run a successful one, so that they can explain what they learned from the failed one, which mistakes did they commit, and why the one they now run is successful.
The problem is my English. I'm not a native English speaker and while I can speak and interact with people, I'm scared podcasts would turn to be quite boring and that I would have to spend a lot of time editing. Many people have encouraged me to try it, but I decided that I need to hire or set up a contract with someone to host it.
Is there anyone interested on this? Let me know in the comments!
I checked out this thread because I was super confused how you wanted to start a podcast and then not host it. I understand more after reading your post.
I think that you should consider being the host yourself. I realize that it is scary, but I don't think that someone else will be as good a host as you because you are the one who is excited enough to take action and launch a podcast, which is a lot of work. Your passion and experience will certainly come through in the conversation and that will likely be difficult for someone else to replicate.
It will be really difficult, but your english will also improve as you talk to more people consistently in english. I recall an episode of the excellent UI Breakfast Podcast where the host, Jane Portman, talked about her fear of starting a podcast for the same reason. She said that practice made her feel more comfortable and her english improved. As of this posting, her show now has 143 episodes!
I realize that I am just some random person on the internet, but I just wanted to give some motivation and support to you starting the show yourself.
Whichever direction you decide to go, good luck with everything! 😃🎙👍
Hey Conor! Thanks a lot for your feedback on this. We're now really near to the launch date.
What happened within the time I published this post and today? I found a super cool guy who was really into the startup & podcasting world. However, before we started recording anything, he got into a bigger project and had to focus on that. That's why we decided to pivot and I suggested one of Failory team members, a guy that's super enthusiastic about the podcast and that really wanted to get into it, to host it.
During the last few weeks, he has been practicing a lot, investigating equipment and reaching a lot of different podcasters. He is a friend of a podcast producer who is helping us as well and he really knows about businesses and startups. I'm sure he will do a great job!
I'd be interested if you would like to discuss. I've thought that such a podcast would be interesting and have thought about doing something along those lines myself.
Cool! Just sent you an email ;)
