93% Survival Rate of Projects on IH
Before we started this new project (https://blog.acacess.com), my partner asked me to do a market research. Therefore, we took the task management category on IH as a window to understand the market as our focus is on time management.
So far, there are 29 interviews in this category, we read all of them, and made a simple stats (see the screenshot).
Among these 29 projects, ONLY 2 projects had no response when we tried to visit their website. If we use this to evaluate if the project is alive or not, then the conclusion is quite positive -- 93% of projects in task management category on IH are alive.
Based on this finding, we decided to devote ourselves to this direction. At the moment, we are concentrating to build the MVP of our tool and build our community by inviting guests to share their experience / thoughts on managing time. Really great approach, the IH database/interview archive are certainly a goldmine.
Gotta be careful about a selection bias here though. The people who do interviews are usually probably either a) doing better or b) hustling harder. Most companies that die, die with a fizzle (usually having never considered doing an IH interview to increase traffic!).
You may want to run a similar analysis based on the Products database, it'll be a bit more representative.

Indeed, we kept in mind that there might be a survival bias in interviews. Another thing should be noticed is that task management category is a relatively big category comparing to other categories. In this sense, we believe this is still worth trying.
