Ask IH: Any help on this project?

Hi guys,

I've been working on this project (weekend project) and I'm always trying to find ways of making the product better for everyone. What recommendations would you give to help advance this website?

I've been advertising it for a bit with some users signing up.

Thank you.

Having done some product research on this domain, here are some of the observations/questions I have.

    1. Re-writing or even copy/pasting resume is a pain for many. People hate doing that.
    2. I do not mind uploading my resume, but you need to do the heavy lifting of identifying the skills, location, and qualifications. With years of experience that list grows and can be a super friction thing for customer onboarding.
    3. Sharing resume by a link is not a feature, it can be done with google docs and even dropbox. What would be interesting is, can you show metrics on how many people visited my resume, can you tell what was their retention time on my resume. Can I create a unique url for every new application that I share with, so that I know when the recruiter/HR has actually downloaded/viewed my resume.
    4. What is the USP of the product that's different from freely available tools like LinkedIn.

      Hi,

It seems the analytic side interest you the most. That can be interesting to input.

You have a good point, sharing a URL is not new. Perhaps having some sort of analytics can help. Can you explain further about point number 2?

      What's the USP?

      • You can store multiple resumes (different skillsets)
      • You can link projects to a resume (useful for many jobs like Software Developer)
      • Add a cover letter for each resume.
      1. 1
        1. Many of the tools like hired.com, on upload of the resume they are able to identify the companies, the number of years and technologies that are mentioned on the resume automagically. This helps reduce the friction to re-write the same stuff into the application.
        • Multiple resumes: Isn't it the same as having multiple variations of the resume on your machine. I have like 3 versions of my resume at any point in time in my folder, synced to dropbox and gdrive. Helps me edit in google docs which reflects across other services.
        • Linking projects: Do you see a case where people would want to link only some projects to some resumes and not all. Even if there is one such use-case, I suspect it could be a minority.
        • Cover letter: Similar to multiple resumes. I see the requirement for cover letter diminishing by the day. In the last 11 yrs, I might have interviewed with over 25 companies, never did I need one. Probably it's just me.

Honestly, the above features are kind of expected from a service like this, the differentiator I would like to see are things that I cannot do today easily.

        1. I would love to go back in time and see all the communication with a recruiter in one place and all the documents that I've shared with them
        2. I would like to A/B test my resumes
        3. I would like to share my documents securely with only the people that I've authorized for.
        4. If I make it through the interview stage, I would love to give access to my secure documents limited by time. For ex: links to SSN/passport copies with expiration time
        5. The service should be able to sync with services like LinkedIn for getting recommendations and skills that are endorsed so that it can be showcased online.

Checkout springrole.com, not the exact space but for inputs on step 2 ✌️
