I have just achieved a BIG milestone: $1,000/month!

I have just achieved a BIG milestone: $1,000/month!

I started Failory with zero or none knowledge on how to monetize a content site. During the last 16 months, I have been working on the project, publishing content, promoting the interviews, building new tools and sending weekly newsletters without receiving in exchange almost any money.

However, I can finally say that I have found a great way to monetize the project. In January I took a two-week holiday and couldn't work for two weeks on the project. Despite this, I was able to generate $750 (mostly came from affiliate links) becoming the month in which I made the biggest amount of money.

Now, having February started 2 days ago, I was already able to make $1,000! This came from three different sources:

  • The Everything Package: In late December, I added to Failory an advertising package that consists in sponsoring the entire website and newsletter for one month. I was able to sell 4 of these packages for the next months. The one I sold for February meant $650.

  • Advertisement on content pages: I was able to sell a $300 AD slot on every content page of Failory.

  • Genm's Affiliate Program: Joining this program was the best decision I took in the last 6 months. Genm is a website in which you can hire apprentices that help you in your digital marketing campaigns 40 hours per month for only $49. I am personally using it and really like the site, so I joined their affiliate program and recommended the tool in Failory. This has meant $100 in December, $600 in January and already $50 in February.

So, $650 + $300 + $50 = $1,000!

Congratulations on hitting the $1000 milestone!

I've never heard of GenM before - but a useful resource for future!

      Thanks @DeanYeong!

    Congratulations on the big milestone!

How did you get companies advertise on your website? Did you contact them directly or via some platform?

Thanks! Right now, I am not doing any cold-email. Sponsors are reaching me through Failory's /sponsor page.

Congrats Rich! 16 months is a looong time to go without receiving much money. Glad to see you're finally being rewarded.

Hey @csallen! Thanks a lot for your kind words ;) I believe that with more work and focus on monetization I will be able to increase the revenue. Keep it up with IH!

That's so inspiring. Congratulations. I'm very happy you now get back for all the work.
Thanks for sharing what works for you.

How many people do you have on your site now? How many newsletter subscribers?

If you willing to share of course ;)

Hey @Madamdo! Of course I am willing ;) In fact, you can find this information publicly published in Failory, in the /open page. Around 20,000-25,000 users visit the site every month and the newsletter now has 4,600 subscribers, as I have deleted 2,500 that were quite innactive.

Do you have a newsletter on a website? I could not find it spending a whole minute :)

      Found it!

But I'm considering my previous comment as a feedback :)

P.S. Great job with the milestone!

That's awesome, congrats! Sounds like you really pushed hard to get where you are.

For GenM, do they actually do 40 hours a month? It says "Hire a GenM digital marketing apprentice to work with you for up to 40 hours a month" but sounds like there are hidden costs there?

What has been the impact of outsourcing this? Has it been noticeable?

    1. 1

Hey James! They actually do ;) Between 30 and 40 hours. There aren't any hidden costs. As for the impact, it depends on what type of work you are looking for. I would recommend you to avoid difficult tasks that require some deep studies.

Yeah I'm only thinking for building a social media audience so might be useful. Thanks for the tip.
