I'm finally pushing my product out there after --- way too long working on it! I got to demo it at the IndieHacker meetup in San Francisco a week ago (thanks for working me in at the last minute, Chase!), and it seemed to be a pretty big hit.
It's piano karaoke, and it uses the original music videos on youtube, and layers graphics and sound on top, synchronized. Great for kids (but also adults). My 4 year old absolutely loves playing along to her favorite music videos.
Please check it out, and I'd appreciate if you can spread it around. Trying to get it noticed on Hacker News (check in the "show" page), would love to get some love there!
Thanks!
Hi, Rob.
I like the execution of the idea but I would suggest redesigning the website.
Thanks yeah the web page was an afterthought, I had a different main page (mostly a grid of videos) but it wasn't working, so I did an explanatory page instead. I probably got a bit too playful with it, I've since toned it down (now it's got conventional fonts, flat background, got rid of the top message, and a few other things to make it "just a page"). Is it better? I still left some rainbow colors up at the top since the concept is dependent on rainbow colors (and hopefully that is clear now from the way the colors are used), but I understand that that can bring back memories of "rainbow marquees" and such and can seem tacky or outdated.
Do you still have problems with it? Keep in mind that eventually the explanatory page won't be the front page, but for now it is more about explaining the concept.
Everything else seems fine, but I can see why the "rainbow marquees" and such can seem tacky or outdated.
So you are saying that the two places rainbow colors are used (the "glowy" colored letters of "color coded", and the colored ripple effect when you pass the mouse over the pianoply logo) are bothersome? Just making sure I understand.
I want it to be playful (I don't want it to seem like a "serious" piano site) and to allude to colors because colors are important....but obviously if people have real aversions to anything like that I can tone it down further.
Thanks
The idea is great, but you need to have a better website. It looks like from the year 2000. I would definitely work on web design of the site. This is my point
Thanks, let me know if it looks better. The main page was completely reworked at the last minute, and I've toned some things down where I got a bit carried away.
Congrats on the launch! This looks like a ton of fun actually. But as everyone said, the website 😑
