A chat app that shows what the user is typing to you
Hi, folks. I'm here to hear community advice. My friend has an idea of a chat app where the user can see what the other user type in real time. We use Google Docs as our first prototype for trying to chat in real-time. The first impression was how fast and fun such communication is. It was the fastest chat in the West. But I little-bit skeptical of practical use cases of such technology. What do you think about such chat app? Are there niches with demand in real-time chatting, except fun?
Or should start sell course about how to build prototypes in Google Docs? 😄
Why would people use this app? A lot of people have anxiety even just because their chat app shows that they're typing, not to mention if it shows what you're typing and deleting in real time.
I want to find niche in which such technology can be helpful. One possible use case is quick text brainstorming for two people.
Or if just stick with technology oflive text typing I have idea of the app for text broadcasting where author in live type content for subscribers
It sounds like a good idea initially, but if you really need that real-time communication, you'd go real-time with Discord, Zoom or even gasp an old-fashioned phone call.
There's a good reason why Apple et al have gone with the animated three dots to signal someone is responding - It would be super easy for them to pass each character down a websocket as something was being typed, but they haven't.
With your real-time chat:
What if I paste in some content by mistake?
What if I start chatting in the wrong window accidentally?
If my typing is being reflected constantly at the recipient's end, how do I make a longer point without potentially being interrupted?
What does the conversation flow even look like if people are potentially talking over each other throughout?
I think once the novelty of the "fast chat" wears off, this could put people off using the app.
Can you give us some sample use cases to justify the real-time chat? Do you think you might be trying to find a problem for the solution you've invented? :o)
