A co-living for Indie Hackers

I've been living with my girlfriend as digital nomads for a couple years now. We love experiencing new cities and cultures, making friends, trying new food and all the perks of this life.

But after we stayed in co-living place we saw how better our experience is when we add daily real-life interactions to it, it was great being part of a community and we felt home for the first time there in a long time.

The problem though was that we wanted to stay with people like us and like you guys, people who like building things and growing projects. Now we are trying to have both by creating the co-living house we always wanted to live in! Basically a co-living house for Indie Hackers that have freedom to work from wherever they want.

If you are interested in knowing more about it, you can find more info in this google form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1NORN3BGP862bAJirlH2OWPts8KujJWymprwGFMvjMGk/edit

That's a very interesting initiative, didn't know about it, thanks for sharing!

Yea, I feel like 1500 is too expensive as well. It's Brazil, shared house and one of the interest of people living there will be to minimize the expenses so they can bootstrap their projects. I actually live with much less than that in Stockholm, Sweden :D

Completely agree. When I started reading I was like, I want this, I figured something like a third of the price with the plus of hanging out with other makers. But lol, I don't need to give up on my freedom/privacy at home for that and then pay 3x on top of that. Every other listed thing is irrelevant. And as you say, $1500 is expensive even if the coliving was in Stockholm, which isnt precisely cheap. Same here, in Barcelona for that price you can get a really nice 80sqm renovated apt in the city center :D

In any case, I might not be the target audience of OP. I'd love to colive with other makers, but for me the #1 thing of coliving would be the same as sharing apt, cutting acommodation costs. If the coliving was more focused on getting people together in working on the same thing, that'd shift things a little bit for me, but that's way harder to pull out. In any case OP, I'm sure you can find a market willing to pay $1500/mo for that, don't get me wrong.

Interesting reaction, this is actually one of the cheapest prices I've seen having perks like that. For example, outsite and roam charge around 1800-2500 and have less perks and not this focus on makers.

And this price we set (nothing is 100% defined yet) was based on the cost, not on revenue. We are from Brazil and we lived 2 years in Curitiba so we have a really good idea of the costs around there. Of course if we cut some perks, get a simpler house and maybe a bigger one so we have more people to share the costs it could get way below that.

But for a house with around 5-6 rooms that its not guaranteed to be always full with the perks listed and all the work to take care of it... its a fair price.

But totally get you think its too expensive, living in a lot of cities in a small airbnb is way cheaper than that, we are currently doing it in Ho Chi Minh, for example. But the goal there is totally different and if someone created that co-living I definitely would join, it would be way easier than creating it myself hahaha

couldn't someone just get an airbnb for $50/day at that price? I've been traveling through Europe for the last four months for ~$40/day

Like Joan said, we are probably not your target audience so don't treat this as the thinking of the majority.

There is a place in India where it is much cheaper and pretty beautiful. They provide Food, Housing and Co working for around 280$ for month. http://www.ghoomakad.com/

I like the idea (and Curitiba also) - I lived in Curitiba for several years of my life, it seems like a European city in Brazil.

The idea of bringing together people from all over the world in Curitiba to build something bigger makes me feel good. And when I say something more significant, they are bonds between people.

Keep me informed about the progress of your project.

    Good initiative.
