I am close friends with one of the founders of FounderWay ( https://www.founderway.ai )
This is a startup that helps founders develop, fundraise, and ultimately grow their own startups.
I did a technology lookup on their marketing site, and saw it was made with Wix.
Wix is something I associate with ecommerce stores, brick and mortar retail, and more specifically with the least technical types of business owners.
I inquired to my friend, and as it turns out, I may have had wix wrong.
The points he brought to me about why they chose and are staying with wix were as follows:
So here I was, thinking Wix was a bullshit platform, when really, it turns out there are always more than 1 way to feed a cat.
Do you know anyone in the tech space using Wix over framer, hubspot cms, or webflow? Or do you, like me, have a bias against wix? LMK in the comments!👇
we use wix for our student ai saas as well
the insights on users are very valuable
This was literally me also a few years ago! I migrated my Mom’s website from Wix to Wordpress because I hated the editor so much. 😠Now it’s 2024 and I’m migrating all my agency clients from Webflow to Wix Studio because it’s more powerful than Webflow when it comes to custom code and has the design freedom of Framer!
I’m not sure if you know the difference but Wix Studio is even more powerful than classic Wix. It just launched last fall. You should check it out if you haven’t already!
Your post's title was a nice hook.
I had the exact same bias against Wix, but I do find that they're a cheap starting point versus most no-code website builders out there.
I used them for a landing page at one point just to collect interest and showcase some level of "professionalism" as you can fix up the design easily on their platform. However, I redirected the main technical stuff to another platform.
Thanks for sharing your insights and your friends.
Many folks have switched to https://versoly.com/ from Wix, they really hate the editor.
Even Wix understands this and has made Wix Studio.
Wix has a ton of features, but they're half baked usually. Even Shopify can't handle all use cases and they have a huge app store.
So you are the founder of vetsoly.com right ?
Versoly yes.
Wix is commonly known as a website builder that enables users to create websites with ease, but one counterintuitive use case for Wix is as a prototyping tool for web and user interface (UI) design. Here's how Wix can be utilized in this unconventional manner:
Rapid Prototyping:
Wix allows users to quickly and intuitively design web pages with a drag-and-drop interface. This makes it an excellent tool for creating rapid prototypes of websites or web applications.
Visual Design Exploration:
Designers can explore various visual elements, layouts, and color schemes in a visual and interactive way. Wix's pre-built design elements and templates can be used to experiment with different styles.
Client Collaboration:
Wix enables designers to share interactive prototypes with clients or stakeholders. Clients can navigate through the prototype, providing valuable feedback on the visual design and user experience.
Responsive Design Testing:
Wix allows designers to preview and test the responsiveness of their prototypes across different devices. This is essential for ensuring a consistent and user-friendly experience on various screen sizes.
Cost-Effective Solution:
For designers or small teams with limited resources, Wix can serve as a cost-effective alternative to specialized prototyping tools. It doesn't require advanced coding skills, making it accessible to a broader audience.
Collaborative Design Sessions:
Design teams can collaborate in real-time on Wix, making it possible for multiple team members to contribute to the prototyping process simultaneously. This can enhance collaboration and creativity.
User Flow Visualization:
Wix's platform allows designers to create interactive user flows by linking pages. This is beneficial for visualizing and testing the navigation and user journey within a website or application.
While Wix may not be the conventional choice for prototyping, its user-friendly nature, visual design capabilities, and collaboration features make it a surprisingly effective tool for certain design scenarios. Designers and teams looking for a quick and accessible way to create interactive prototypes may find Wix to be a valuable addition to their toolkit.
