A database of 1700+ SaaS making money

I'm building a database of SaaS products with 500+ MRR from interviews, builinginpublic posts and news

The goal is to serve as an information repository for saas products- https://microsaasdb.com/

Currently it has info like MRR, audience, financials, SEO and general info but I'm planning to add info like audience, niche, what worked for them, what didn't, traffic acquisition etc. in the long-term

The goal is to serve 3 purposes:

  • Help builders who're looking for new ideas in a specific industry+category
  • Helping investors looking for new SaaS to invest/buy
  • Help people looking for a specific solution who don't want to buy an entire suite (e.g. if I need just a linkedin scheduler, I don't need to pay for a tool like Hootsuite with 10 extra features that I don't need)

I'll appreciate your ideas ( like new metrics, features) to improve it that'll benefit you as an audience of the platform.

Any feedback is welcome!

Also- updates on fast growing new saas starting next week, exclusively for newsletter audience- https://decodingvirality.substack.com/

    Great project. Thanks

Thanks for building this @Subro. Indeed, a simple yet significant one.

A few suggestions/feature requests your way:

    1. Company's Contact Email or Phone:
Really handy and you might start charging a premium for this. As a user, if I want to reach out to the SaaS I'm interested in, I might wanna check their LinkedIn and other platforms.

    2. Bookmarking option:
Do I really need to explain this :p

    3. Overall Better Design:
The current design implementation looks very poor, I think a minor revamp can does wonders. Happy to volunteer. Reach me Here

    Upwards and Onwards.
    Thanks

Great advice.. can't thank enough for this.. will def reach out.

        Welcome, looking forward :)

What a great collection of information. I just can't stop wondering, how do you get the MRR data from each SaaS?

    1. 1

Full disclaimer, you may not see MRR data in 100% cases.

That being said MRR is from various sources- building in public sources, personal connect with founders, business registries and in some cases it's an algorithmic prediction based on their traffic (from SEMrush), backlinks, twitter followers, user reviews, engagement rate etc.

      1. 1

Understood. Thank you so much for the info!

      Same question here! 🙋

I know some of them were built in the open, and directly quoted on IH or the founder's blog, but all of them is quite a feat!

  4. 2

Top notch product that will do so well no doubt!

  5. 2

Hey @Subro! What a great project man! Will definitely use this. There are 2 websites I've used to manually find more saas companies. One of them is failory, they interview people and you can find out what's their company's about. The other one that I've used is IH's database. Good luck!

    1. 2

Thanks @LeonBuller.. it's really flattering that you're benchmarking MSDB with IH and Failory.. I've followed both for years and both have great databases.

My approach is slightly different as I'm focusing on an array of metrics as well as strategies. I want to get to a point where if you have specific questions about conversion rates, SEO, Ad ROI or even valuation for a SaaS in category X and niche Y, MSDB can reliably answer that question.

      1. 1

Sounds useful to me. Do you share your journey somewhere else except IH?

        1. 1

Decoding saas newsletter (link added to the post) And also Twitter and reddit

          1. 1

Yesterday by accident found you thanks to a retweet from Arvid haha

            1. 1

              Arvid is awesome

  6. 2

Good product, the format/UI seems a bit off on my screen, and also curious how you're monetizing this.

    1. 1

Thanks, still working on monetization but the plan is to offer subscription for more in-depth metrics and strategies like what % saas are offering freemium, what's the typical free-> paid conversion in an analytics tool etc.

Also considering to list tools for buy/sell, add sponsored posts at top and monetizing the newsletter.. there's a lot more to come here

  7. 2

just checked it. quite helpful. How do you find the MRR info of the products?

    1. 2

It's from build-in-public posts but I also run some checks to validate the MRR claims like 1. Is the claim consistent with twitter audience size 2. backlinks 3. PH reviews 4. Overall social conversation around the tool etc.

  8. 2

Thanks for sharing this. Are you monetizing it?

    1. 1

Not right now but I plan to

  9. 2

It'd be great to have a filter by category. Otherwise nice product!

    1. 1

Thanks for the feedback!! I've added a few categories but more to come

How would you keep the data current?

    1. 2

It's the biggest challenge for me right now. Some of the data points are API based, so they are pretty easy to manage. Other data points like place of business, category etc. rarely change- so I'm not updating them. The most challenging part is keeping the MRR data up to date- I'm doing it manually for most popular products in microsaasdb (100 or so) every 2 weeks.

This is a great source of inspiration for us! This even serves as a landing page inspiration database :)

  12. 1

Nice! I've bookmarked it for times when inspiration runs low... Thanks!

  13. 1

    Thanks for building this! Bookmarked!

The first thing that came to mind to further improve the capabilities of this site was to add sorting by founding date.

    1. 1

Thanks! It's a great idea.. I'll have to see how to implement it.

  15. 1

I've been looking for a solution like this for a long time, thanks! :)

    1. 1

You're welcome, feel free to DM me in Twitter if there's any metric that specifically interests you.

    Hello
To be honest, before clicking on your website, i thought it was again a product that is only an airtable directory behind a paywall, but in fact, I was surprised by your product.

Very Interesting, UI can be improved, but nice idea

    1. 1

Thanks! Funny that you mentioned this- my product was inspired by a similar paid airtable directory. When I saw people were paying for that I felt the need to have a live database that can evolve with feedback and be supported by content/advance features subscription.

UI is an area that's high on my priority list.

  17. 1

You need to go after each one of this SaaS and ask to get a commission on each referral.

  18. 1

    Wow! Nice collection!

  19. 1

Impressive stuff, it's going to be a great platform.

  20. 1

This is great, will look this up regularly!

    1. 1

Thanks! Will love to learn about your use cases and any metrics you'd like me to add

  21. 1

Great Idea @Subro! I would love to see aitools .fyi there. Currently fits in the slot of 2k-5k MRR.

    1. 1

Thanks! aitools is nice, how do you promote it?

You can submit the link through the form in the website. We'll need a few additional data points.

  22. 1

Nice - how do you prove the monthly revenue?

    1. 1

I run some checks to validate the MRR claims like 1. Is the claim consistent with twitter audience size 2. backlinks 3. PH reviews 4. Overall social conversation around the tool etc.

Also working on my own algo to predict and validate MRR as I have a decent enough database now.

  23. 1

Cool! I think it would look better if you said "$500-$2000 MRR", instead of "MRR 500-2000"

    1. 1

I'm using a no-code tool to build this and there's a limitation on the filter if I use $ sign.. sometimes we have to live with these limitations to achieve something bigger. But point taken.

  24. 1

Check out Getlatka’s database. That should be helpful. Although more focus on venture backed than indie.

    1. 1

Thanks! more focus on venture backed will definitely get me to the monetization target. It's on my radar as a next priority.

  25. 1

seems like it'd be a smart idea to offer access to the database, and I have some ideas of how id use it.

    1. 1

Would love to hear about your ideas- you can reply here or DM me in Twitter

Also, I'm planning to start a subscription model for the database.
