Happy to be joining the IH ranks. When a friend introduced me to the platform, I knew I found my people. I’d love to share a bit about how I got here, and ask for feedback/advice on our product-in-progress, YourContent.ai .
A Face Made For Radio(?)
Many years ago I had a conversation with a friend...
me: You know, I think I could act. I could do theater, then move to LA and ...
friend: Oooh! You should get into voice overs!
me: What?
friend: Haha… I didn’t mean it like that. It’s not like I said you have a face for radio or something!
And so my Hollywood dreams were dashed...
Over the next 10 years, and through a career transition from engineering to product management in big tech (where some acting is required), five different people told me something similar. Apparently I "have the voice for it." During COVID, one work colleague repeatedly insisted that I get into podcasting.
And so my podcasting dreams were born... ish.
Challenges. AKA The Problem
Since then, I've thought seriously about podcasting. I've had sparks of creativity, jotted down ideas and catch phrases -- "Tune in for more bits in bites!" (I didn't say they were good catch phrases ), but never had the time to develop any of them. There's that, and the fact that every time I googled "podcast microphone" I got overwhelmed and sidetracked into ordering food from DoorDash instead.
AI Makes Dreams Come True
Then AI sparks started flying... generative AI and GPT... text-to-speech that doesn't suck.... and the kicker: voice replication. 🤯 I had everything I needed to have a go at it -- without having to A/B test corny tag lines, or blow my DoorDash budget looking for equipment.
Stop Dreaming and Build Something
So a friend and I got to work building. Our journey in bullets:
- Lots of GPT hacking and prompting
- Deep dives into personas and story telling
- Lots of research into voice cloning
- Put a teaser out for YourPodcast[dot]ai
- Interviewed podcasters and content creators
- Recurring feedback: why just podcasting? So many use cases!
