Hi everyone!
This past weekend I launched The Job Indecision Calculator: How to Calculate Which Job Offer is Right For Your Career Goals and Lifestyle.
This is my first real digital product launch. I've monetized my newsletter, but it's not like this. My work was inspired by @AndrewKamphey 's work with OnlySheets and I basically followed his playbook from How To Sell Google Sheets For Fun and Profit to a T (very well done and highly recommended btw).
I started on Reddit where people sometimes say they have trouble deciding between job offers and who are looking for advice. I found a few threads and reached out to people directly to give them free access in exchange for feedback.
I had planned for a pre-sale, but the initial feedback was very good so I decided to do a "soft launch" in a different subreddit with discount codes and I'm now up to 10 sales since Sunday.
My initial pricing was $20, but no one wanted to pay that much and I got feedback to make it more accessible. While $20 is something I will spend for something I find valuable without even thinking, everyone is different and pricing is hard. I dropped it down to $12 and have had better conversion rates, but I think it's still a bit too high for a larger audience. My goal is not money but reach here so I can do this again.
My questions now are:
Thanks in advance for any support or guidance!
Congratulations! The calculator is helpful. I wrote about making a decision on multiple job offers on my medium before, you have pretty much all criteria covered as per the article: https://link.medium.com/lZ7pmUHj6eb
Regarding your questions, the idea is good. You might want to bundle the calculator with something else to make it more attractive based on the person’s input. For example, how to negotiate better salary if that’s someone’s #1 priority.
Thanks @eisabai and I like your article! You cover some additional pieces I hadn't called out in my spreadsheet, but there is a lot of overlap.
I like the idea of partnering this with another product/video to help increase conversions or just make it more approachable for people.
Awesome that you got to launch this and the guide was helpful.
Tons of job boards and Job newsletters might run it as content if you ask. Or offer you an ad spot.
A few linkedin groups like recruiters and career coaches might love this.
A little off the wall idea: reach out to Tech YouTubers who might have job indecision videos or life optimization or quantified self videos. They might like it and use it in a video. Key is to organically get it used in many videos.
Consider listing it on Appsumo Marketplace.
Thanks @AndrewKamphey for the ideas, Tweets, and support you've given so far!
I also really like the ideas about the newsletters, LinkedIn groups (which is my best social media platform today), and the AppSumo Marketplace.
