This guy took what's going on in the world and made a small/probably bootstrapped project out of it.
Oh my god it's an embedded Airtable that probably has 1mm+ in traffic. MVP! It does make me really jealous to see stuff like this. I know it was still work to build, but really, an Airtable! Beautifully simple. Clearly it's the utility that drives traffic, not the whiz-bang features or unique UI.
Yes, I love simple builds like this. Reminds me of how Ronnie Higgins of EventBright made millions by creating useful evergreen excel spreadsheets for people. Basically, he created a simple spreadsheet to help people plan and track their event promotions. After spending 2-3 hours building it, he made a simple landing page and started getting the spreadsheet in front of people who were managing events. It took off, so from there he made more. Pretty cool!
I think there's a flipside to this too, like if you had a pool of in-house recruiters at great companies, and then whenever a company needs to lay off people they could pre-emptively plan a remote career day with alternative companies. A bit like 'We haven't managed to raise a follow-on round and our cashflow is still negative, so we're going to have to let 50 of you go. We know it sucks, we don't want to lose you, but we've lined up a remote career day with 100 awesome companies that are looking to hire'.
I can't tell if that sounds dystopian or amazing, but if I worked somewhere and they legitimately had to lay some of us off but they could open a bunch of doors to other interesting roles elsewhere I'd be pleased.
