A Notion book tracker with zero manual data entry

Hey IH!

Like many others, I track all of my books, reading lists, and notes with Notion. There are many great templates out there to get started.

However, one thing that always annoyed me about this approach was the manual data entry. When adding a book to Notion, you have to hand copy all of the book's metadata into Notion.

I knew there had to be a better solution.

Making use of the Notion API and native embeds, I built NotionReads - a book tracker that does the "heavy lifting" for you.

After letting a bunch of book nerds beta test this and getting great feedback, I'm publicly launching it today.

You can check it out here: https://notionreads.com

This is the first time that I've launched a digital product, so I'd be thankful for feedback from the IH community:

  • Is this something you'd want to use?
  • Does the landing page answer all of your questions?
  • What features are missing?

Thanks!

P.S: Here's the tweet announcing the launch - if you want to support me, I'd appreciate a Like/RT 🙏

I didn't fully understand the process for searching for a title, finding it, and then adding it to the list.

My test search found one search result when I was expecting many - leaving me to wonder whether it is a title search or an author search or perhaps something else, as well as wondering what underlying data was being searched.

It occurs to me that something like what you have described may be useful for compiling lists of books that you want to sell, if that search could be done by isbn or even by a UPC barcode reader.

Hey there - thanks for testing it and giving feedback!

Would you mind sharing what you searched for? I‘ll check and see what‘s not working with the search.

In an update coming soon, it will also be possible to define if you want to search for only titles or authors

The search term that I entered was: arrl

Thanks for clarifying. I just tweaked the search function to return more results - should give you more for arrl now ;)

Also the main purpose is not discovery right now, rather adding books where you know the title, there of course results are very specific
