A Project Based Coding Bootcamp

I've went to computer engineering school that uses a PBL (Project/Problem based learning) system, it helped me not only to learn software/hardware, but to manage and architecture projects.
Most importantly, it taught me to study/learn/solve problems by myself.
This is why I'm surprised that there aren't many project-based coding schools out there, and that I think we could build one.
The basal idea is simple: we formulate increasing complex projects. The students will form teams and we will meet with them 2-3 times a week to help them get unstuck. We also prescribe source material for them to study what they need to know to advance on the projects. At the end the projects would serve as original portifolio projects for the students.
What do you think of this project? I know we would have to go deeper on the curriculum and the support for the students, but as a developer that learned to build systems through PBL and don't think there's a better method (of course everyone learns differently, and some people would not adapt well).
