A question to Founders who received funding...

Hello Founders,

This is a follow-up to my other question here

Your first funding round might one of the happiest moment in your Founder journey. My question is how does it feel to give a piece of your company to receive funds from the investors? Is losing a percentage of your ownership worth it after all?

I'm working on a video sharing mobile app. It's evident that I cannot support it for long without a funding round, as I'm already hitting my reserves. So I need to know what founders think about giving % ownership in their company to investors.

As you’ve identified it can be difficult to boot strap forever.

You really have to focus on what is the value of your stock, is it better to own 30% of a $100m business or 100% of a $1m business.

If you value total control more than maximising the value of what you create, then you shouldn’t raise.

I think the other key thing is to think about is making sure you understand what your investors expectations, if they are looking at a big long term play (almost all are) the early opportunity to sell (for a meaningful return for you) may now be off the table.

Thanks Dave! I'm thinking long term with my products too.

What was your experience with getting funded? What's like the next set of things that you did after getting funded?
