a quick note on wrist pain for all you technical founders and content magicians

If (when?) you start getting wrist pain, the thing you always find in any search for relief is a list of stretches and ads for surgeries and a ton of repetitive stuff. I'm not saying any of that is wrong, but I would advise you to consider rest as well.

As founders I'm sure we're all aware of the productivity benefits of better rest in our off time. I've used it for years actually. If I find my productivity waning or my workouts lagging, I focus on getting better rest between not on forcing something to just work better.

The same applies to wrist pain (which hits from time to time and is a current problem) for me. When I am beginning to have some pain, I start to focus on where I put my hands.

Rather than rest hands on the table in a vain effort to appear productive, consciously place them in the lap in a neutral position.

I do this when I'm driving as much as I can as well, and at the dinner table, or the bar with friends, or wherever. During work hours, it's a simple physical separation from the keyboard that can come with a mental shift that helps to conceptualize a problem solution instead of just jamming in code that's a 'maybe'.

Anyone else have some perhaps lesser known tips for wrist pain?
No medication, no stretching, no surgery suggestions please...that's all a web search away.

I fully agree. I have RSI in both lower arms (just below elbows), it got so bad it was painful to brush my teeth. It’s now 15+ years since I first felt discomfort and what really worked for me is rest + good posture + ergonomic equipment (mouse + keyboard) and indeed actively putting my hands in a rest state. I’m now back to working 4 days a week 8 hours a day without pain.
