What's everyone's opinion on LinkedIn?
From my experience, many people are becoming dissatisfied with the social media aspect of it (it's too much like Facebook now), but stick around for the candidate - recruiter connection, and the amazing job board they have set up.
It's always been a bit bizarre to me, how there hasn't been an alternative to LinkedIn - A reverse job board / database, focusing on candidate to recruiter relationships.
My idea is to create a platform that acts basically like a huge database, where candidates can create robust profiles, and recruiters can download their profiles as their resume.
This allows the candidates to not worry about creating resumes for each job, or making sure their resume is done right. Through the platform, we'll design the resume using the best known practices.
Recruiters would sign up to the platform, and be able to use our extensive filtering / searching functions, to look for candidates that meet their job requirements. What LinkedIn doesn't do is AI/ML searching - that is a possible avenue we can approach.
Since recruiters also have to find candidates for many different jobs, recruiters can create job posts & the application for the job posts are all done in the platform. The reason is that, we all HATE sending our resume, and then filling out fields in the application that ask for information thats already on the resume.
The platform will create super simple applications, that can connect to various ATS etc.
The platform is completely free for candidates, and would cost recruiters based on how many are on their team. This way we could build up a big database of candidates, making it worth while for recruiters to join.
I hate working with recruiters. Many of them are pretty careless and inattentive, so I tried several times but failed with all of them. In most cases when you need to fill up the fields, it can be done automatically, or you just upload a file. I don't see a problem here.
The real problem is the hiring process itself. It's incredibly stressful, long, non-predictive, and no guarantee you will pick up the right company and will be not be laid off in half a year.
I am not confident in this idea because:
A) linkedin has recruiter which will let you search potential candidates by profiles
B) sites like Indeed.com which lets recruiters search CVs.
Take a look at woo.io
There was also another one, dont remember their name right now.
I think that apart from the platform they have to invest a lot in the human part. Talking to companies and candistes and promoting the matchmaking.
In other words, the technical platform is just a small part of the story, at least for them.
