A SaaS for tracking order/service status of offline purchases

I have been sitting on this idea for a few years, and I am finally read to dig in to it. But I have a few concerns I was hoping to get some feedback on. I still am trying to find a better, more concise way to explain the app, so here's my best effort at the moment.

The idea
A SaaS targeting Brick and Mortar businesses that provide either a service or custom product which requires the customer to leave the place of business and return once completed.

Two examples that I think better explain the concept.

Mechanic Shop/Garage - You drop your vehicle off to have work performed on it. Depending on the job it could take hours, days, or even weeks.

Granite Shop - This might seem a bit odd, but a friend recently opened one and it seemed like a perfect fit. A granite shop generally offers custom products, like a monument, which takes time to build. The customer would come to the shop physically to place the order, and come back to pick it up or have it delivered.

The idea came to me when I had to leave a vehicle at a garage for weeks. It started as a strange issue in the engine, and ended up being a full engine replacement. I had to call them multiple times per week to find out what was happening with our out-of-commission vehicle.

The core concept is to bring the online "order tracking" experience to the customers of these offline, in-person businesses.

My current concerns
The idea came to me as a customer. Because of this my mindset is that of the end-customer, but not my customer - which would be the businesses. I fear that this focus is impacting things like terminology when naming the product and features, marketing when promoting or even talking about the product, and potentially functionality / features while building it.

Some questions

  • Any suggestions for connecting with brick & mortar businesses, outside of physically going into these stores? I can do this of course, but it limits my reach geographically. Looking to see if there are any good communities online that could help with connecting to potential clients, and getting their concerns and ideas.
  • Any suggestions for helping me transition my mindset from end-user to business? I would like to better understand the customers I'm targeting, like small business owners, office managers, customer service representatives, etc...
  • Any general feedback on the idea, my explanation, or anything else?

I appreciate any feedback! This is my first indie hacking adventure, so I'm simultaneously scared and excited! I am planning to try #BuildingInPublic as well, so feel free to follow me @Rain2o.

This actually sounds like a great idea. :)

I think it is critical that you somehow make this integrate with the different businesses work flow, to not make it a hassle for them to update the tracking. :)

Thanks for the feedback @BECH. I agree, that will be one of my primary focuses. But first I need to better learn what the most commonly used software for this workflow are so I can prioritize those integrations.
